Chinese scientists achieve quantum computational advantage

If I were American I would not like China either.

Why do you have to drag America into this? China's isn't a front runner - not even close.
This thing created by Pan Jianwei is NOT programable and has very limited practical application with the notable exception of generating random secure encryption keys.
The programming is achieved by physically arranging crystals, mirrors and splitter screens in a room.
This Chinese quantum computer can only do one thing which is sampling Gaussian boson

It is embarrassing for me to watch that many Chinese users on this website are kind of like "far-right" and especially racist towards Indians. And they also tend to be less humble than the average Chinese. I feel bad about that. But the US users on this website are incredibly salty from what I saw. You would be amazed how much time they put into the "research" to find out the bugs of some native Chinese users' claims.

This is simply not true. What China achieved here was a one off experiment. The photonic circuit is not programmable and can’t be used to solve real world problems.

Now, however, Google’s quantum computer has achieved something that could have real-world applications: successfully simulating a simple chemical reaction. The feat points the way toward quantum chemistry, which could expand scientists’ understanding of molecular reactions and lead to useful discoveries, such as better batteries, new ways to make fertilizer and improved methods of removing carbon dioxide from the air.

Last year’s quantum superiority experiment was run on a chip dubbed Sycamore, which contained 53 superconducting quantum bits, or qubits. Chilled to near absolute zero, the qubits take on quantum-mechanical properties, allowing scientists to manipulate them in more complicated and useful ways than the simple “on/off” flows of current that make up the bits of classical computers. The hope is that one day, quantum computers will become powerful enough to quickly perform calculations that would take the lifetime of the universe for a classical computer to complete.

This quantum-chemistry experiment, which was described in the August 28 issue of the journal Science, relied on the same basic Sycamore design, though it only used 12 qubits. But it demonstrates the system’s versatility, says Ryan Babbush, the researcher in charge of developing algorithms for the Google project. “It shows that, in fact, this device is a completely programmable digital quantum computer that can be used for really any task you might attempt,” he says.

While I guess the exact critic from IBM to Google's claim of "quantum supremacy" last year is "does it have any meaningful value other than checking the output of a random number generator" from your article. no need to be too salty to say "simply not true". To be clear none of the current quantum computers can be used as classic computers to solve real-world problems today. Obviously, Google found a feat experiment of a chemical reaction simulation. Jiuzhang's photonic path is very different from Google's Sycamore and not programable from this experiment. To compare to the classic computer in usage, they are almost on the same page. Who knows if we need a forever "next 50 years" like fusion power generation. For me, I am optimistic about the path of the photonic circuit because it has a great advantage over google's superconducting processor in that it doesn't need an ultra-low temperature environment. This means more potential to miniaturize and commercialize.
