Chinese PLA Colonel: Doklam was a humiliating defeat for China, PRC caved in to Indian pressure

Well temporary Chinese posts are there in doklam plateau since 1980s as far as I know. While India also maintains a post there and Bhutanese army maintains 2 posts so far....Its not new. This is precisely what we call status quo there....all parties have been involved in patrolling and stuff but no permanent structure would be allowed to change status quo. I am also happy that India will now maintain more troops according to Chinese count there.

All along India posts were in Doka La, next to Doklam, no issues on that. China had been making road in Doklam, if you check the map, there are roads all over Doklam, but these are low grade tracks not grade 40 roads. What China did was upgrade it to grade 40 roads until Doka La. This triggered Indian reaction and they went in 100 meters from the border. China did inform Indian side on this and instead of protesting diplomatically they sent in troops. You be the judge.

India fell into our trap. Once they retreat unilaterally, we begin our road building to cut off the chicken neck.

Now it is too late for India, so China declared our intention publicly already

The chicken neck cutting is going to be another partition to remember for India.

1. China and Bhutan both were patrolling the area for years.

Let me do a little correction.

2. China tried to push around a small country like Bhutan by changing the ground positions there by building a road. Roads had already existed there in the form of low grade paths, China upgraded those paths to grade 40 roads until Doka La, roughly 30-40% deep in Doklam.

3. India moved in to honor its friendship treaty with Bhutan and made China stop the road construction with immediate effect, and asked China to withdraw its road construction equipment, restoring status quo. China informed India on this activity out of goodwill, instead of protesting they sent in troops. China gave warning in the first month for peaceful resolutions, mobilize troops in the second month and escalated in Ladakh sector to send a message about a two front war. India withdraws.

4. A military stand-off begins with hourly threats of war from China, India didn't budge from its demand, nor paid any attention to constant Chinese threats. India remained silent and tried to negotiate in Beijing, China stuck with the stand of no negotiations until withdrawals, Doval returns empty handed and China further escalated troop mobilizations.

5. After 70 days China meekly withdraw all the road construction equipment first, followed by a mutual military deescalation, thus restoring status quo. After 70 days, India unilaterally withdrew and didn't get any road cessation concession from China. China postpones construction using weather as an excuse to enable Modi to visit China in September.

6. China issued face saving statements like "we will patrol the area" (sure, that's restoring status quo), and "will follow our infrastructure plan based on weather, ground situation, necessary changes, etc. etc. etc." with no specific timeline (sure, saving face is important). China officially informs the international community through their foreign ministry press conference that China will continue to patrol and station troops in Doklam and continue construction when weather permits. Most likely in February since Modi is coming in September and when the issue dies down, affording Modi some space from domestic media attacks.

7. On the ground, India has stopped Chinese illegal road construction, mutually deescalated the situation as China complied with Indian demands, and restored status quo. On the ground, Chinese troops are still present and road building activities will continue as per official Chinese statement.

A question of general interest to both Chinese and Indians

where exactly is this Doklam?
and more importantly what is its correct name that can be searched on the 'map'.

Look in google maps, it's at the tip of the Chumbi valley. India on the west and Bhutan to the South. Earlier maps are wrong they showed it at the East of Chinese border far from the tri-junction. That area already has a Chinese highway passing through all the way to yadong.

Yeah, do come back soon.

How can we "come back" when you unilaterally retreated and we are still there in Doklam?
Calm down bro...it was a strategic miscalculation, they will not cross that border anymore. Let the issue die down and give Modi some face, the construction will continue when Indian media is not aiming at Modi.

Don't forget to tag me when the 'weather conditions' are suitable and China restarts the road building in reality. :)

Bro I can bet my membership this will happen. Modi cannot afford media attention when this happens. It has to be a media victory.

Another day and another stupid piece from SCMP.
Construction on road can only be resumed next June due to heavy snow and bad weather from September onwards.
When India trespassed onto Donglang, it is no longer about the road.
Indians look foolish to keep harping about the road.

Donglang stand-off is about India challenging China on the sovereignty of Donglang.
It is no longer about the road.

In a stand-off, everybody is looking for who will blink, not why there is a stand-off.
It is no longer about the land dispute or the road.

China has ordered India to stand down.
If Donglang belongs to Bhutan as India asserted, India don't have to leave.
India now has obediently OBEYED China's order.
Good Boy Obedient India.

India has clearly surrendered by standing down first.
India can redeem its pride only if China publicly announce that China has agreed to Indian terms, which has not happened.
But if that is the case, there would have been a mutual withdrawal.

PANGONG LAKE FIGHT
CHINA 1 . . . INDIA 0

DONGLANG STAND-OFF
CHINA 1 . . . INDIA 0
.
Nope.
Doklam stand off was never about territory sonvr we never claimed it to be our part.
It was about Chinese road construction and violation of no building in trijunctions.
And China will never be able to resume construction of the road even a century from now.
BTW there is no snow in Doklam and there won't be any till November.
