Chinese netizens’ angst over TPP: “Why won’t they play with us?”

I always see TPP as both a challenge and an opportunity for China. Like I once said on this forum, TPP certainly poses negative impacts in short run, like low-end manufacturing flow out of China (which may jeopardise employment), lower market expectation (which may worse the international capital outflow), but in the long run it is definitely an opportunity we must seize: first, most economies in TPP except north american nations actually signed trade agreements with China( that's why ppl fear to lose US market but not others), so if pan-Pacific economy thrill because of TPP, China can enjoy better market opportunity, It's not like China will be isolated from all these economies by TPP treatments; second, China is facing severe market distortion and over capacity in infrastructual departments because of Keynes policy posed in global financial crisis and desperate to upgrade its industrial structure, yet TPP pushes the investment to flow into advanced manufacturing and finance services( fastest growing departments in current China) instead of low end manufacturing and infrastructure; third, China now is pushing hard to globalize RMB, TPP actually offers better opportunity for Chinese capital to invest overseas(especially low end manufacturing that may thrilling in SEAN). I once disgussed this topic with a Viet mumber named Nice Guy, With or without TPP, China must upgrade its economy as possible as we can, if we managed to reach our goals, then TPP poses no threat to our economy, but if we fail, there's no TPP or other agreements can help us, in this case, TPP is actually positive for China to upgrade a better economy(relys on consumption more, invests advancing manufacturing & services)in long run.
Ppl who worried too much about TPP actually still think that China relys on low cost labour force, but if they read the annual reports or academic papers they will see that our cheap labour force is dissipating for many years and what China's real advantages are.
I think China will remain be prudent about participating TPP for three reasons, first, US's agriculture industry is devastating to east asian househood agriculture under TPP rules; second, some TPP treatments may significantly increase the cost of developing countries to catch up technologically; third, developing economies may face the risk of being locked up at the lower end of international industrial chain.I think China's worrying is as much the same as Vietnam's, so I have told Nice Guy that Vietnam must beware of the stake ahead, do not step into the trap and get locked up, one day Vietnam will face the same need of upgrade too, and this is the bigger picture than the short term bankruptcy of househood agriculture.

China wants to be the USA by copying its tech and science. Shameless. How about do something different? start their own technology? do their own R&D. Stop stealing from USA. Billions dollars are lost due to the Chinese's shameless and wreckless act. The shameless Chinese hackers are stealing for its country and sell it to Chinese corps that are state owned and when they are exposed to the world, they denied it. The truth is China develop nothing from its own backyard. Most of it are stolen and then copied then sold it back to their FTA market. Now, they go online pretending they are innocent, giving and most advanced. A bunch of thieves that has a motive in mind. It is so obvious what China is doing.

Why the hell should USA play nice with China? You want to be the top? you gotta fight for it. US will not back down not for a good fight. TPP is set up to slow China's growth. Nothing wrong with joining TPP. The Chinese government are playing dumb, but they have a motive in mind. It's naive to believe TPP is not significant. Chinese government are good at deceiving people. It is part of their plan. Today I'm still buying Chinese made product but tomorrow, most of my product will be made by TPP. There's no such things as low tech goods. USA and Japan is known for its tech. China can only steal from it. Shameless. JMHO.

yeah so we're fighting for it while your country is on its knees lol.

lol this isn't like Vietnam war where us used south Vietnamese to fight north Vietnamese then turned them into penniless refugees.

In reality South Vietnamese has reunificated Vietnam.

To fighting counter PLA in SCS, using Hua chinese who are living in USA is the best solution. You have obey your US president.

TPP is both good and bad for China, right now joining TPP is the worst decision that can be made by China. But in the future, say, 10yrs later, things may be different. However, instead of being a TPP member, a trade-off alternative for China is to sign an FTA with USA, then most business barriers set by TPP will be almost gone, at the same time China can avoid negotiating one by one with TPP countries to get the ticket to join TPP, and can also skip some nasty TPP rules from China's own perspective. The core of TPP is USA market, others either got FTA with china already or are just trivial. The first step to sign a FTA is the sino-usa bilateral investment treaty (BIT) , which is closed to be done. China's market will be at least with a size comparable to USA 10 yrs later, so the sino-usa FTA is a benefit-exchanging action, not begging like a bottom country who you know.

Aww poor westener, where's the mother to save this child from the big, bad China?
Anyway good to see China stealing from america. China needs to steal more, they get new technology while they don't have to spend huge sums of money. Chinese truly are smart unlike their western counterpart.

In 1979, in order to get the economic support from US, Deng had to surrender Taiwan to US.

So which part CN must surrender to US to get the FTA this time ? Ah, I think thats must be all isls that CN hold in SCS ( east VN sea)

Free trade is not free for the begger :)

This time, that can be repeated again, color-ize that country.....
