在香港访问的解放军海军高层表示,一旦中央军委对黄岩岛事态作出具体决策,海军会义不容辞,完成任务。

A senior officer in the PLAN said in Hong Kong today that whenever the Central Military Committee makes a decision regarding Huangyan Island, the Navy will immediately take action and complete the mission without hesitation.

李士红(解放军171编队指挥官、南海舰队副参谋长):黄岩岛这个问题大家都清楚,是中国固有的领土,这个是不容争辩的。

Li Shihong, the commander of the 171 fleet and vice-chief of staff of the South Sea Fleet said: Everyone knows that Huangyan Island is China's permanent and sovereign territory, and this is not up for debate.

那么具体我们海军,我们军队要采取什么样的行动,我刚才也已经说过和强调了,是要由我们的中央,中央军委做出决策。

Therefore, for our navy, I've already said and emphasized that the decision rests with the government and the Party.

一旦作出决策,我们的海军是义不容辞的,你也要相信我更有信心,是一定能够完成党中央和中央军委交给我们的任务的。

Once the decision has been made, we will take resolute action. You must know that we have absolute confidence in completing the mission the Party and Central Military Commission has given us.

US-Philippine military exercises directed against China
By Peter Symonds
26 April 2012
Joint US-Philippine military exercises are currently underway that can only heighten tensions with China over disputed territorial claims in the South China Sea and in the Indo-Pacific region more broadly.
Yesterday, 4,500 US Marines and 2,500 Philippine troops staged an amphibious landing drill at Ulugan Bay on Palawan Island to simulate the recapture of an island from “militants.” Despite denials by American and Philippine officials, the exercise was pointedly aimed at China, which contests the sovereignty of waters and islands in the South China Sea, including the Spratly Islands, adjacent to Palawan Island.

no offense but what is Philippine gonna field in the exercise with US Navy or for that matter in war time?

Its navy is of no match to even China's coast guard.

exactly, what they gonna fight the frigates in the ocean with, blocking their supply routes and bombarding the land at will.
Unless they plan to swim across the ocean and onto the ships :D

When you are in company of a friendly and superior force, it make tactical sense to subordinate your own to that superior force. You can even be the CINC of that combined force if the alliance charter allows. In this disputed region, it make eminent sense to have the USN in the lead, from command to force array with the Filipino Navy in a supportive role. Assume the PLAN is foolish enough to take on the USN, once the PLAN ships are turned into artificial reefs, the US can help the Filipinos assert whatever piecemeal sovereignty over the islands, and/or to help settle disputes among the smaller Asian countries who are contestants in this region.

China use his old trick "Killing the chicken, bullying a monkey", but monkey here is USA. :coffee:
Leaning on US, Philippines boldly pushes back on China in sea dispute.
The Philippines, a normally quiet claimant in South China Sea disputes, is mounting unusually bold resistance against China as it edges in on Manila’s maritime interests. It could pit China against the US, which wants to keep its historic military and economic hold on Asia, and add pressure on Beijing to enter negotiations, during which analysts say it would be humiliated by smaller countries with weaker militaries but more clearly defined claims to the sea – and stronger US backing.

In other words USN will engage PLAN for Philippines?

China will never dare to attack USN.

If China is "blocking their supply routes and bombarding the land at will" then yes, we will engage, and if necessary, sink all of the PLAN as per our mutual defence treaty obligations to defend the Philippines.

the us is very stupid if it should meddle into the affair by sending USN over the dispute of a shoal When signing the joint military agreement, usa demarcated Huangyan Dao as a territory outside the sovereignty of the Philippines in 1951. So this morning Clinton has made it clear the US is not going to get involved or to side with anyone in the dispute.

China will never dare to attack USN.

Vice Versa!

I hope you will be the president of USA the next term!!! I really hope!!!

good idea. the last nail that seals the coffin for good!

I don't think china will attack either Philippines or japan till US is militarily more powerful than china.btw it can pressurise them through diplomatic ways. in today's worlds most of the weapons are just to show off ur might. Nobody wants to purge billion dollars of trade for just a few islands.

huh..... good luck with that!

I'm not saying USN will be unsuccessful but would it worth it for them? considering they will surely mount huge losses in such a conflict owing to the growing strength of PLAN, almost unsurmountable.

The huge loses would be on the Chinese side. You know when the first gulf war erupted, the users of Soviet/Russian technology were shocked at how we steam rolled over the Iraqis and turned Soviet designed weaponry into twisted metal. The Chinese Navy has no experience in wide scale naval combat. They are still in the learning stages. The technology is still behind ours. Only the United States knows and understand naval aviation. All this talk of "we are ready BLAH BLAH" is mainly for domestic consumption.

There are 200 ASBMs already and they cost 10 million. A ship costs 1-5 billion. Trade 10:1 and the missiles still come up on top by far.
