I dont quite understand why PLAAF would bother with making military Ch-47 copies.

It would be far better to copy the Mi 26. Modernize it, make it more reliable, more maintenance friendly.

Infact I dont quite get why IAF is buying Ch-47's in the first place for heavy lift. Rather IAF would have bought modernized and customized versions of Mi 26 to get around the issue of low service rate of the Mi 26 fleet.

Mi 26 is heads and shoulders more practical than Ch-47 in heavy lift role.

Does this mean India just a one off copy incident? No, in fact. Its a limitation of their technology that they are not able to RE large number of military equipment rather than its their choice not too.

And you are ignoring many fact that China has started to get self sufficient and able to produce many local product like J-20, WZ-10 , Type052C destroyer, Type054A frigate.

It doesn't really matter. Mercedes invented the car with 4 wheels, an engine, etc...so everyone copied Germany for car design.

Let them cry all they want as long as we don't need to pay license fees. Most importantly, reverse engineering is NOT an easy task. It takes a lot of knowledge, ingenuity and highly educated scientists to do the work.

Indians would be doing it if it was that easy, but they have low IQ so they have to buy, buy, buy

Depends on what they plan to use it for. IF heavy lift of cargo, or vehicles is required, the Mi 26, the CH 53 are in clear advantage and that's why IAF should had gone with a real heavy lifter too. But if they want to use it as a bigger troop transporter in higher numbers and want to carry heavier loads externally only, the Ch47 offers similar capabilities.

The Russians actually proposed a partnershipt for the Mi 26T2, but didn't worked out so far.
