China's president to visit Vietnam amid South China Sea tension

is it Chinese policy to give money to the enemy?

I rarely comment on Sino-Vietnam relationship but allow me to say a few words.

China does have enemy, but who are they? Perhaps we should look at the existing world order, how benefits are reaped, who are the beneficiaries, what they do to preserve status quo, then we may find out in the big picture. Now move focus back to Sino-Vietnam relationship, yes there are prevailing territorial disputes in the seas, there are unpleasant memories of the past, but it's hard to equivalate a smaller land-bordered neigbour of similar politico-social system as a mortal enemy in any sense. I appreciate what both Xi, as well as his counterpart Trong, are trying to do, that's resetting the relationship, avoiding war tragedy from happening again, and build a foundation for co-development. Well beings of people in both countries rely on their leaders' wisdom in maximizing the common denominator in between, and take solid steps in remedying the finite differences. This state visit, first of its kind in almost a decade, is a good progress.

Well that's just my personal opinion, a bit boring it might be, so now I will leave this thread, let the keyboard war resume!

Wow, a disk cleaner in CAD like you never wish something good for CN.

Just like chairman Mao, Mr.Xi understand that supporting VN is the only way to keep CN survive against US's containment. We will get rich soon and may come to CAD and enjoy the food in your restaurant 8-)

Over sea Chinese is the real enemy with color revolt, VN is the savior that will help CN to survive in TPP 8-)

In a broad picture with the competition of civilization, it is always in Chinese interest to have an independent and prosperous Vietnam, also including Korea, Japan and East Asian Countries. Traditions. Unfortunately, Japan led the way to pay tribute to Westerners by murdering East Asian people and some countries think that this is the only way to get developed. After the dealth of Ho Chi-Ming, Vietnam wanted better relations with Soviet Union and started Chinese Exclusion Movement with extreme nationalism. This was why Vietnam was attacked by China. By now overseas Chinese in Vietnam is only 1 million, significantly smaller than Thailand (9 millions), Malaysia (7 millions) and Indonesia (3 millions), even smaller than Philippines with traditions of Chinese massacres. What Vietnam did in 1970s to Chinese was much worse than Muslim extremists by just looking at the Chinese population numbers.

As long as Vietnam can contain extreme nationalism, I do not see any bad relations between Sino-Vietnam relations. Even SCS conflicts are treated as conflict of interests among neighbors. This conflict seems to benefit Vietnam a lot now. The case of Vietnam is completely different from that of Philippines. Philippines have the tradition to massacre Chinese, together with Western colonizers. Both Spain and United States could easily orchestrated Chinese Massacre in Philippine. Philippines are different from other ASEAN people. They align with the West instead of the East. They are the only Christian nation in almost the whole Asia.

don't repeat china propaganda here.

After vietnam war, Vietnam tried to do balancing with Soviet, socialists countries and with China, it is ignored that China shook hands with USA in Vietnam war. same what VCP does to day, but idiot CPC backed Khmer Rouge to attack Vietnam on border to make oppression on Vietnam. There is stupied strateggie of China.

You said about competition of civilisation here is hillarous. What is this ?

Time for VN to take more money from the 5 year support plan of Cn and get rich, just take as much as we can. Who care about some crawling guys crying by the lake

Vietnam owns a huge trade deficit with China! In 2014 alone, the number was as high as 43.8 billion USD! Equivalent to a quarter of Vietnam's total GDP, or 10 times of Vietnam's military spending!

You could understand the contracts signed as free support. It is up to you. But for each dollar that we give you, we will take 100 dollar back.

Trade deficit will no longer exit when TPP come out as we must avoid using Cnese component to export to TPP nations.

So, just like your support before 1975, we take all for Free. No chance for you to get back anything, but at least we spare CN a way to survive

Bcs you are weak but big mouth, so we must teach you a lesson. We dont hate CN. You should understand that you are just a cash cow to us. Dont dream too much..or we will side with US to take you down in TPP.

Mr Xi is smart man, he know that fighting against VN only lead CN to the brink of collapse.

China, Vietnam advance comradely ties
Published: 2015-11-5 22:18:01

Chinese President Xi Jinping, also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, landed in Vietnam for a two-day state visit Thursday. Hanoi received him with the highest level of welcome as this is the first visit by a top Chinese leader in 10 years.

The Sino-Vietnamese relationship is one of the most frequently discussed bilateral ties between China and other Asian countries since it offers large space for subjective talk and conjecture.

Many Western observers assert that Vietnam is aligning with the US as Hanoi needs Washington's power against China in territorial disputes.

But this seems to be wishful thinking by the US and Japan. Western public opinion tends to imagine Vietnam is pulled into a camp against China and even made a vanguard in contending with China. But Xi's visit can be a wake-up call for the West. China and Vietnam have maintained country-to-country and Party relationships. "Comrade" and "brother" are still forms of address used by leaders of the two sides.

China and Vietnam have had problems over the maritime disputes in the South China Sea and borders previously. However, they are both socialist countries with similar systems of government. China's power and prosperity can naturally bolster the legitimacy of the Vietnamese system.

The Sino-Vietnamese relationship can always get back on track even after maritime frictions rear up. It means friendly cooperation instead of conflict remains the theme of bilateral ties.

The relationship between the two parties has served as ballast, helping the two sides keep a clear mind at the strategic level. Some China's neighboring countries have adopted a balancing tactic between Beijing and Washington, along with China's rise and these countries' opening up. But it can be sure that Hanoi won't go the furthest. Vietnam leadership is well aware that Washington won't take it easy with Hanoi on the issue of human rights. Even a few US officials may take a softer stance temporarily for taking Vietnam to contain China, active human rights advocators in the US won't be so flexible. It is a major obstacle for Vietnam to advance ties with the US.

Despite signs of growing political diversity, it is still the consensus among the Communist Party of Vietnam that it must stick to the party as the sole power to lead the country. Given the lesson of the former Soviet Union and east European nations that abandoned communism, no socialist country would probably want to repeat the tragedy.

The Sino-Vietnamese relationship will face different issues and concerns. However, maintaining friendly and cooperative strategic ties with China, and shielding the relationship from being sabotaged by territorial disputes, is among the core interests of Vietnam. Continuing the comradely and brotherly relationship with Vietnam is also stressed by Chinese people.

Xi's visit will offer an opportunity for the comprehensive engagement for the two leaderships. It is believed this brotherly communication will bring tangible results.

For your textiles, toys, or agricultural products that exported to Walmart, you actually don't need that many Chinese components.

What we export to Vietnam in great volumes is the high value added products, like vehicles, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, power equipment, railway equipment etc. These high-tech stuffs are completely beyond the capabilities of Vietnam.

Thanks to TPP! The un-controlled foreign investment to Vietnam means Vietnam's any desire to develop its own indigenous high tech industry, be it vehicles, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, power equipment, railway equipment, etc, will be easily killed by US or Japanese companies. And the only foreseeable future for Vietnam is to supply textiles or toys to Walmart forever.

In TPP, JP-US machineries will have much cheaper prices, and we will replace low quality Cnese machineries with US-JP's ones, we discussed abt it in many thread already. No need to talk it again here.

A country owns more than 40bn usd trade deficit to china a year calls china as its cash cow. That's the best joke I heard this week. As I said, for every dollar we give you, we will take 100 dollar back.
TPP? So what! The only thing that could be guaranteed by TPP is that Vietnam will play the role as low cost labor FOREVER.

Its just like CN was our cash cow before 1975. Hard for you to swallow the truth?? Who care ??

From now, when we come to CN, your boss will tell you to say " we thanks for your help, VNese friend"...or you will be fired :)

Funny! Why don't you say TPP will make the U.S. or JP companies to sell you products for free? You think they are charity? Without competition from a 3rd party player, they will get the last coin that you own. Without competition, whatever the prices they raise to you, the only thing you could do is nodding!

Its just like CN was our cash cow before 1975. Hard for you to swallow the truth?? Who care ??
The things before 1975 is nothing but investment. Thanks to our earlier investment, now we can get 44 billion usd from Vietnam a year! You couldn't find better investment than this!

Two nations to step up drugs fight
By Zhang Yan

China and Vietnam are to strengthen judicial cooperation to combat cross-border drug trafficking, the Ministry of Public Security said on Thursday.

The border area between the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Vietnam has become the second-largest channel for smuggling drugs to China, according to the ministry.

It said in a statement that the border with Myanmar is the main route for such smuggling.

China borders two major international centers for opium and methamphetamine production - the Golden Triangle and Golden Crescent.

The Golden Triangle, which includes Myanmar, Laos and Thailand, is the world's major drug producing area and Yunnan province and Guangxi are the worst-hit drug trafficking areas in China, the ministry said.

The Golden Crescent overlaps Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.

China and Vietnam are conducting a campaign from Sept 16 to Nov 15 to combat drug smuggling and target major trafficking rings.

According to the ministry, since Sept 16, law enforcement officers from the two countries have discovered 1,466 drug smuggling cases, captured 2,054 suspects and confiscated 2,383 kilograms of drugs.

Chinese police uncovered 960 of the trafficking cases and arrested 1,196 suspects, including eight Vietnamese. They also seized 2,299 kg of drugs, including 63 kg of heroin and 88.4 kg of methamphetamine, and confiscated 1.27 million yuan ($200,000) in so-called dirty money.

The ministry said that during the campaign it has set up a command center in Guangxi to collect evidence and opened a hotline to exchange intelligence with Vietnam. It also directed joint actions to combat drug trafficking.

To date, Chinese police have exchanged 28 items of valuable information with their Vietnamese counterparts for measures to be taken to combat such crimes, the ministry said.

It has also deployed police from 17 provinces and regions, including Guangxi, Guangdong and Yunnan, to take part in joint actions.

Law enforcement officers from both countries have also intensified security checks on key roads, at airports and ports on the border to curb drug smuggling.

The ministry said that apart from drugs being trafficked to China, many synthetic drugs have been smuggled to Vietnam through the border area.
