China’s Mars rover feat took NASA decades

China Mars rover technology is not too far away from US.

Not even close in terms of sensors, automation and powerplant, curiosity is scaling mountains in its 9th year on Mars. While the Chinese rover it is hoped will operate for 90 days. The Chinese rover is larger than but very similar to the solar powered Spirit rover (designed for 92 days) that arrived on Mars in the early 2000's

Chinese scientists hope get at least 90 Martian days of service out of the six-wheeled robot at its location on Utopia Planitia, a vast terrain in the planet's northern hemisphere

You are right it isn't close in terms of sensors...

Zhurong has a ground penetrating radar that is 10x longer ranged than Perseverance.

Curiosity does not have such a radar.

so what? The NASA radar operates at a much higher frequency to obtain sub surface images of a much higher resolution - the highest on MARS at this time. The Chinese radar has a low frequency channel to penetrate longer distances and a high frequency channel for <10 m images. NASA did not see the benefit a low frequency channel and so didn't include the capability for the mission.

The Chinese low frequency channel is used for simple radar return measurements it is hoped the returns will provide some basic information of subsurface characteristics.

But the comparison was to the Curiosity, not Perseverance, which you stated had far superior sensors. I demonstrated it did not and that Zhurong had a sensor it didn't and which is at least on par with Perseverance.

Curiosity mission did not include GPR because sub surface exploration wasn't its mission.
It's mission was to study Martian environment to see if it could support life..

With its rover named Curiosity, Mars Science Laboratory mission is part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program, a long-term effort of robotic exploration of the red planet. Curiosity was designed to assess whether Mars ever had an environment able to support small life forms called microbes. In other words, its mission is to determine the planet's "habitability."

Then you could not have made such an assessment of relative superiority or inferiority.

of course I can, Curiosity is still on Mars still exploring and executing its mission nearly 10 years after it got to Mars. The Zuhrong has a planned shelf life of 90 days, it is solar powered and so is massively disadvantaged one dust storm is enough to end its mission.

Chinese announced requirements are always design minimums (to downplay capabilities) unlike US or India which announce design maximums (to placate special interests and make themselves look stronger).

And the power plant has nothing to do with the sensors.

don't be silly 90 days vs decades of exploration that is what you get with a reliable power source..
Design maximums? NASA's accomplishments and failures are made public by NASA.Unlike China that admit failure only as a last resort when there is compelling public evidence of failure.

You busted him so hard :enjoy:

Even US admitted China succeeded Mars landing on first attempt. Not sure why some folks like you continue to advocate the conspiracy theory China hides all previous landing failures and only showcased the successful landing attempt. :china: :usflag:

Not NASA but the failed LCS project was supposed to be the most powerful most flexible next generation warships with modular designs that could swap into any mission set.

Instead they got heavy frigate displacements with patrol boat firepower. But couldn't cancel them until now because of special interests.

Zumwalt was supposed to be both a revolutionary design by itself, the most powerful long ranged land striker in existence and the platform to build the CG(X) cruiser.

Instead it was a massive failure resulting in class cancellation after 3 hulls and ending the CG(X) program.

Let me bust your fake lies....

Look at these photo.
Mars rover comparison.jpg

You see the size of Opportunity which is not even the same class as Zhurong despite Zhurong only weight additional 100kg more than Opportunity. The solar panel onboard is far bigger and more advance to allow more power to sustain more scientific experiment. Look at the size of Zhurong wheel vs the pathetic Opportunity small wheel. Tell me which one has better chances of getting pass a rocky path.

US NASA also claim Opportunity to work only 90 days and yet this rover work for a whopping 14 years before dead. You can imagine Zhurong are fitted with more advance solar panel with anti Sand material and multi angle adaption to better capture solar power to last longer and work longer despite being a solar power instead of nuclear power.

As for sensor, my compatriot already explain it well of some sensor which is absent from US rover especially the magnetic sensor which allow CNSA to have a first hand knowledge of Mars magnetic exact status.

With a planned 90-sol duration of activity (slightly less than 92.5 Earth days),
