China's economy may grow to 15 times that of S. Korea by 2030: World Bank

India 64.7
BD 64.1

Look at the latest figures on CIA website. It has Bangladesh at 70 and India at 67

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2102.html

Now just imagine that India got it's independence in 1947 and BD had to wait till 1972. Hmmm...

Indians these days try to be whither than white..perhaps a legacy of serving the brits for 200 years!

These muppets get a "welcome" by their white masters in Western countries with a good beating!

That means you are saying Pakistan helped you alot in developing.

Not really.

Life expectancy for BD at Independence in 1972 was only 40 years, less than India. Now BD is 3 years ahead of India at 70 years compared to 67 for India

Without wishing to retread old ground if BD had become an independent country in 1947, like Pakistan and India, there is little doubt it would have become the richest country in South Asia by a mile now.

Dearie, if Bangladesh had gotten it's independence in 1947, it would be war torn, no doubt, not the richest country in South Asia. And have you checked BD's population density? 50 more years and there will be no space left for Bangladeshis.

LOL. It would be more like Malaysia than India or Pakistan

Just think why life expectancy in BD is 3-4 years higher than in either Pakistan or India, despite the fact
that both of those countries had a 25 year head start.

The two huge advantages that BD has over either and Pakistan is it's relative homogenity and a BD that became independent in 1947 would have spent far less of it's resources on defence as India and Pakistan have done due to the Kashmir conflict.

@UKBengali,
You do have quite a few valid points. And yes if Bangladesh has been independent in 1947, it would have a difficult start but eventually it was lead the South Asia. Lets not forget that East-Pakistan was the industrial engine of united Pakistan and loss of East-Pakistan took the Pakistani industry in a downward slump. The British left a whole lot trading and commerce infrastructure in Bengal which would definitely give Bangladesh a head start has it been independent in 1947. A lot of Pakistan business men are now moving to Bangladesh due to relative volatility and insecurity at home.

Thank you for your impartial assessment.

Also, do not forget that huge resources(primarily jute revenue which was billions a year in today's prices) was spent on the Pakistan army and the industrial and infrastructural development of the then West Pakistan.

If BD was independent, this revenue would have kick-started BD into a period of rapid growth and the mind-boggles at the kind of industries that BD could have become advanced in- electronics, shipbuilding, cars, pharamaceuticals etc.

But that is in the past now. BD and Pakistan should co-operate now for the common good of both countries and that is to stop India bullying other South Asian countries due to it's huge size.
