China's 8th largest desert turns green, 70% desert in Inner Mongolia has been tamed so far
China's eighth-largest desert, Maowusu Desert, is turning green. The desert spanned across 42,200 square kilometers in northwestern China. But its area has been shrinking over the past decades, due to consistent afforestation efforts.

It doesn't rain much there and that's why it becomes desert. Plantation and water diversion, I guess, similar to what they do with Xinjiang desert below.

Chinese government should encourage timber plantations. Reforestation is happening in China at expense of other nations. Deforestation has just been offshored.
