KARACHI, Jan 18 (Gwadar Pro) - As POWERCHINA Overseas Volunteers Association continues to participate in local construction and integrates into local development in the form of volunteer services, a team of its volunteers recently visited Al-Mustafa Orphanage in Karachi and presented stationery, sportswear, and other supplies to the children.
The gifts in the form of school bags, pencil boxes, cricket bats, balls, and sports uniforms brought joy to the orphaned children.
“We will study hard; we want to see the outside world,” POWERCHINA quoted the children as saying when they were receiving the stationery and sports uniforms. The volunteers also played cricket and interesting games with them.
The director of the orphanage said that POWERCHINA’s compassion has touched all the staff members deeply and hoped that the company’s ventures in Pakistan will continue to flourish.
According to POWERCHINA Pakistan Branch Office, the company has made donations to the orphanage four times since 2018, including the rooftop photovoltaic panels, school and sports supplies, and other necessities. POWERCHINA will continue to pay close attention to the children’s growth, helping them have a bright future, as per the company statement.
POWERCHINA has been actively fulfilling its social responsibilities in Pakistan, including giving donations for flood disasters, building schools, organising volunteer activities, and providing jobs and skill training opportunities for local employees.
POWERCHINA Overseas Volunteers Association has established volunteer teams to serve and communicate with stakeholders during overseas engineering and construction and carries out “Technology for Life”, “Green for the Future” and “Love for the World” activities. These activities underscore China’s theme to promote and connect people through the “Belt and Road Imitative” while exemplifying responsible global corporate.

Pak, China space technology cooperation landmark in history: Pang Chunxue​

Madam Pang Chunxue, Charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan said that China, Pakistan cooperation in space technology represents a landmark experience in Science and Technology cooperation and it will be recorded in the history of bilateral friendship.


ISLAMABAD – Charge d’ Affairs of the Chinese Embassy to Pakistan, Pang Chunxue yesterday praised the Pakistani and Chinese scientists for their services and cooperation. She said the cooperation in Science and Technology (S&T) was an important part of the China-Pakistan bilateral relations and both countries had jointly funded more than 475 research projects covering agriculture, aerospace, and chemical industry.

Speaking at a ceremony held here to celebrate China-Pakistan Space Science & Technology Cooperation, the envoy said remarkable results had been achieved since the two countries signed an intergovernmental S&T cooperation agreement in 1976.

Moreover, many projects were also funded between both countries in the field of water resource protection, medical and health care, biotechnology, computer science, environment, energy, meteorology, geology, and technology management, she added. Pang Chunxue said: “We are here to have the handover ceremony of Pakistani medicinal plant seeds after a six-month orbit stay in China Space Station.

Security situation is incredibly safe, by far the highest HDI, locals are generally more educated and more open minded. They will definitely reap benefits.

Amount of money invested in Gwadar, put into the above would've reaped a greater reward likely. Obviously it's not as strategic as a coastal city around the world's deepest sea port but there are other opportunities.

CHINA ROLLS OVER $700M LOAN TO PAKISTAN: SOURCES​

ISLAMABAD: China has rolled over their deposit of $700 million with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on the existing terms as Islamabad’s foreign exchange reserves escaped further decline, ARY News reported, citing sources.
According to details, the development was announced during a virtual meeting between officials of Ministry of Finance and Revenue and International Monetary Fund (IMF)
Sources told ARY News that Pakistan has apprised the Fund of the debt rollover from China’s bank.
During the meeting, the IMF demanded the implementation of recovery plan from electricity and gas defaulters. The Fund has demanded an immediate improvement on power losses.

Ishaq Dar meets Chinese Charge’d Affairs ​

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Ishaq Dar met Charge’d Affairs, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Ms. Pang Chunxue.
The two sides also discussed the progress on CPEC projects and resolved to accelerate and enhance mutual cooperation. They discussed about further deepening these ties in economic as well as financial sectors, the statement added.
On the occasion, the Finance Minister highlighted the long-standing and deep-rooted brotherly ties between both countries and shared that China and Pakistan have strong bilateral relations in a number of economic avenues.
He commended the support of Chinese leadership to Pakistan in its challenging times and shared various economic measures taken by the government to bring the economy on progressive path.
Ms. Pang Chunxue appreciated the policy steps taken by the government for sustaining and boosting the fiscal and monetary stability.
She shared good will gestures and assured the continuous support of Chinese government to Pakistan and added that her government stands with people of Pakistan and is willing to provide every possible assistance.

Foreign exchange reserves ​

Earlier in February, the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) foreign exchange reserves witnessed an increase of $276 million to $3.193 billion after having maintained a declining trend in the last three weeks.
According to a statement issued by the central bank, the foreign exchange reserves held by the SBP were recorded at $3,192.9 million as of February 10, up $276 million compared with $2,916.7 on February 3.
Meanwhile, the net foreign reserves held by commercial banks stood at $5.5 billion, bringing the country’s total liquid foreign reserves to $8.7 billion. However, the central bank did not mention any specific reason behind an increase in SBP-held reserves.
Last week, the country’s foreign exchange reserves had fallen below Rs3bn on account of external debt payments.

Pakistan rejects US ‘concerns’ about China loans​

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday rubbished controversial remarks by a US official about China’s loans under CPEC, asserting that Islamabad is proud of its friendship with Beijing which has always come to assistance whenever needed.

“China has always come to Pakistan’s assistance whenever needed. Pakistani nation is proud of its friendship with China,” Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told a weekly press briefing when asked about the US State Department Counselor Derek Chollet’s recent statement regarding Pakistan-China relations

The spokesperson said Pakistan being a sovereign state exercises the right to choose its economic partners from around the globe on mutually beneficially basis. “Pakistan considers China as an all-weather strategic cooperative partner,” she reiterated. “China has been a consistent, generous and steadfast friend that has stood by Pakistan for the last several decades,” she added.

It is worth mentioning here that US State Department Counselor Derek Chollet had said last week during visit to Islamabad that United States was concerned about debt owed to China by Pakistan and other countries.

He had also said that Washington was talking to Islamabad about the “perils” of a closer relationship with Beijing, but would not ask Pakistan to choose between the United States and China.

China-Pakistan Gandhara Art Exhibition to be inaugurated in Beijing​

BEIJING, Mar. 13 (China Economic Net) - The Gandhara art exhibition at Palace Museum in Beijing, China will be inaugurated by the Federal Secretary Ministry of National Heritage & Culture Division, Pakistan, Fareena Mazhar. The exhibition, which will be held on March 15, will showcase the cultural heritage of Gandhara, an ancient region that spans parts of modern-day Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan.
The exhibition will feature a wide array of artifacts, sculptures, and other items that are representative of the Gandharan culture. It will also include a multimedia presentation, art installations, and interactive activities to help visitors understand the cultural history of the region. Over 170 art pieces brought from various museums of Pakistan would be showcased at the Palace Museum, Beijing.
The exhibition is organized by the Chinese Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Pakistani National Heritage & Culture Division. The event is also an important part of the Year of Tourism Exchanges being celebrated by China and Pakistan this year.
