China urges EU to lift arms embargo

I completely agree that the later trenches of Rafale and Typhoon will tear J-10B to shreds but with 2 afterburners and significantly larger hull size, they are not stealthy.

They don't have major advantages over the J-10B other than their pure thrust.

Stealth is on J-10B's side. Radar and ECCM will probably remain on the J-10B's side. Maneuverability is definitely on the J-10B's side.

Not to mention that by the time the later tranches of the Eurofighter and Rafale come out in significant numbers, the J-16/18/18/2X and possibly J-20 will be in service or late stages of flight testing.

If the EU were to lift the arms embargo would China buy high end military hardware like fighter jets, subs etc?

no. it is more likely that china will buy components to put into domestic platforms.

.
I do agree that if China is not up to par in term of military technology as compare to Europe, China will catch up and surpass Europe soon. Only the US is much more advance as compare to everyone else. China will soon be #2.

China has pretty much surpassed Western Europe. China is still behind Russia, however.

But not in certain sub components. China is still way behind Russia in many fields. However, i do envision China to advance very quickly and becoming a formidable competitor to the US by 2025.

Russia has the legacy of USSR, but they cannot rebuild many stuffs of the Soviet era.

For example, they even have the problem to refit Kuznetsov because the carrier was built in Ukraine and many important components were left in Ukraine. And why it takes so long to handle the Gorshkov carrier to India? Not only Russia wants to whitemail for more money, but it also has many technical issues, because again this was an Ukrainian carrier.

They are ahead of China in key areas, such as nuclear submarines, bomber aircraft, transports, etc. Seeing that power projection weapons fit into this category, this is a huge priority of the PLA.

One carrier doesn't prove everything.

Sub components like engines, even though currently might not be up to standards, are under development, and once they are fielded, Europe loses all aspects of that advantage.

No country can have complete technological superiority over another. The US still imports a lot of subsystems (for example, the Advanced Gun System, M777, various engines, G36, etc) from other countries. Therefore, it is expected that China does as well.

Russia is ahead of China in major areas like nuclear submarines, carriers, and bombers. Other areas such as ASAT/ABM systems, artillery and land, surface vessels, cruise / anti ship missiles, etc, have China ahead of Russia.

We should give Russia the credit because they boosted our industries back in the 1960s and 1970s.

Again, their poor production line cannot sustain those legacies of the Soviet era.

They will spend many years to struggle with their Borei class and Bulava missile, and the production line for Tu-160 was closed. Antonov now belongs to Ukraine.

It's not that they can't. It's that they don't have the willpower to do so.

They put a lot of work into the Borei class, yet they succeeded.

Meanwhile, our Type 094 Type 2 / Type 3 and Type 096 still remains in development.

And BTW, where did you hear about the Type 094 Type 2 and Type 094 Type 3? Got any more info on that?

According to Peishens, there is one new Type 094 was deployed, and i assume this one could be model 2 of Type 094.

And JL-2 will keep testifying during its whole lifespan like the Trident II D5 missile just for the sake of reliability.

And it seems that Type 096 is getting near.

And now there is high possibility that the next carrier built by the Dalian shipyard will be a nuclear one with the steam catapults comparable to the Nimitz class.

China is already ahead of Russia in the aircraft carrier, and pretty soon we will catch up in the rest.
