China uneasy over incoming German minister's threat to curb imports

Countries already do this. Tesla makes cars in the US and China. The EU has manufacturing in Europe and China. Now Germany is just saying they want a higher percent made locally so they don't have to import from China.

actually Germany is threatening China with unilateral economic aggression if you read the simple text of the minister's statements.

No she is taking over where Trump attempted...and had only limited success..ironically due to Merkel.

"European Union states should speak as one and use the bloc’s leverage as a major economic power in their dealings with Beijing, Baerbock said, raising the prospect of import restrictions."

That is only your wild and wishful guess. China export of vehicles rise 120% this year and germany isn't our main market.

Do what? Move back that 5% only to find its money losing business and need government subsidizes to survive becos Made in China is still much cheaper and more economical. You are just asking for wishful thinking.

Those made in Germany of low to mid tech industries need government subsidizes to survive. Majority of Europe goods still need made in China to remain competitive. Not using made in China product will make your operating cost higher and who paid for this higher cost? You?

The bragging of higher living standard, more worker right and higher GDP per capita are starting to haunt you back. The thing you all so proud to brag about is precisely the thing that killed made in Germany or made in USA.

Of cos idiot like @Viet knows nothing about such stuff. He's holding German passport but hope the destruction of Germany by playing trade war with China. He is just a tool used by US imperialism who murder millions of Vietnamese with unilateral bombing.

And what happened to US trade war with China? Did US won? Last I heard, one of US senator ask for tariff on China goods to be lifted. Any real German hopefully can see the consequence of US foolish act.
Nonsense
I am just a neutral observer.
Whether Germany imports more or less is not my concern.
Ms Bärbock isn’t smart but will win any beauty competition.

I think currently the problem is not if they want to import, but if manufacturing countries want to export.

Good question. However if you remember your history correctly Nixon was talking to Mao just as India and Pakistan were having battles...and we were on Pakistan's side.

The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 was a military confrontation between India and Pakistan that occurred during the Bangladesh Liberation War in East Pakistan from 3 December 1971 to the fall of Dacca (Dhaka) on 16 December 1971.

Not sure what you blabla here about, but let me illuminate you about this: in China, you put four wheels on Chinese batteries, you get your Tesla cars so you can boast about everywhere, in india, you put four wheels on indian cowshit, you still get cowshit. It is simple, China's strength lies in the supply chain and infrastructure.

There's just too much demand (probably not long-term, but there's, due in part QEs in many countries), not just for finished products but intermediaries and raw materials. I would say neighter export nor import-based economies have an upper hand.

Now Toyota is planning to do the same.

Electronics, chips is hard to get now. I know it from the practice. When I buy parts or finished products they tell me hey you will get it in 6 months at best scenario. Even special computer wirings are hard to buy.
Simple things as shoes certainly not.

It's only about countries realizing they should not be relying heavily on China for critical imports because one day China can easily throw the switch. Too many companies have gotten too cozy by moving their manufacturing to cheap labor markets.

There are hundreds of German companies doing business in China (mainly in the technology intensive fields like Railways, Aviation, construction equipment, you name it.

Where will German companies like Putzmeister, Schwing, Airbus do business?? China is where it's at....

Talking tough is one thing, backing it up with concrete action is where the rubber meets the road.

Another dumb mouthy woke broad who thinks lollipops grow on trees...talk with your business constituents first and see what is at stake.

If faced with tariff barriers, the Chinese will just move production to places like Bangladesh to satisfy Rules of Origin requirements. They're already here in very large degree.

In textile, yes. When I go to large stores, I notice diversification. Especially cheap textiles are from low-end developing countries, no more from China. I even see Made in India tags. Myanmar, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkey, Egypt... It is diversified, especially in cheap textile segment.

This may not be bad thing. Germany lags behind in EV cars. China doesn't need to consider Germany's feeling when China decide to ban all oil cars in the near future. The ban will make Chinese EV cars industry more competitive and eventually China will compete with German cars in global market.
