China to Import Beef And Build Slaughterhouses in Pakistan

Mmm no "iron brothers" then?

And you ignoring the beefy part of my post and nitpicking at the tail is exactly what I expected of you.
you’d be surprised how much livestock contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.

Cattle takes the top spot...thank you for mentioning it. :enjoy:

All some Pakistanis see is $$$, not the long game...

. .
Our people are protein starved we should ban beef export.

Dumb decision makers in islamabad only see the export revenue.

i am against export of all food items . its like a poor man did not eat himself but sale it to earn some money . our people need to eat ,

I agree with you that the health and well being of our people is paramount.

However, a lot of our problems stem from our severe under production on a per acre basis for almost every crop. To give you an example Pakistan produced about 67 tons of sugarcane per hectare in 2018 while both neighboring Iran and India produced almost 88 tons per hectare and countries like the US produced almost 95 tons per hectare and Egypt produced about 123 tons per hectare.
FAOSTAT

If we just matched what Iran and India produced per hectare based on the total land area we cultivated for sugar cane that would have meant an additional 23,140,866 tons of crop harvested (i.e. extra 31%), if we could match Egypt we'd have doubled our production.

There are a host of issues at play here including:
  1. Pakistan is a nation without industry so you have too many subsistence farmers with small land holdings who can't buy the modern agricultural equipment, aren't educated in modern agricultural techniques nor can afford the fertilizers necessary to grow, properly collect and store an abundant harvest so even what we grow we lose a lot of it due to damage during harvest and improper storage.
  2. We keep thinking of ourselves as a nation that is water starved and though we do need to be careful a major area of concern is that we can't store our water so only a fraction of that reaches the farm gate while the majority of it either escapes into the Arabian Sea, evaporates or seeps into the ground water particularly after causing major damage to our cropland and cities during floods.
Ultimately Pakistan's development is going to need to come from Pakistan investing in itself and our own brands but that isn't going to happen without the government collecting tax revenues to reinvest in our primary sectors particularly agriculture.

There's so much we can do including expanding our total arable land and utilizing land that was previously difficult to cultivate through modern techniques, equipment and crops like Lucerne which we could plant in Balochistan and Australia already uses in their arid regions to raise a lot of cattle:

I'm primarily against selling our arable land to foreign nations but the Chinese assisting us in the development of modern slaughterhouses can be hugely beneficial and drive a lot of money into our agricultural sector so we can get it to where it can produce a massive amount of food to feed our people and export to the China as well.

We can also earn revenues to move people off the farms and into better paying jobs in a host of associated industries and totally new industries particularly considering our population is largely very young.

The demand for extra beef in Pakistan will be met by rampant cattle smuggling out of the Indian states like Rajasthan, and Guiarat who in turn will smuggle cattle from the states of UP and other Central States.

Lol, but isn't that a good thing?

We'll be making the money and I guess they'll benefit from less feral cattle roaming their streets causing a mess everywhere.

As for our border security we can implement checks with the slaughterhouses to ensure that the beef they're sourcing is legal (ex. RFID tags on their ears proving it was purchased from a legal cattle farm).

Furthermore, the additional tax revenues generated from our trade and incomes to workers can also go towards the army which can be tasked with border security providing better salaries and equipment to monitor movements. Markets can also be setup on the border where legal trade can be conducted and can also go towards fencing to keep out undesirables.

Up until now all the livestock was smuggled to Afghanistan and Iran. This will stop.

I agree in fact we're likely to see increased imports of cattle from neighboring Iran and Afghanistan as well and it'll help develop their economies by injecting much needed money into their agricultural sector.

The Deputy Consul General of Pakistan in Chengdu, Mahmood Akhtar, has announced that Chinese investors want to build slaughterhouses in Pakistan to improve Pakistan’s beef export capacity.
Mahmood Akhtar said, “There are already many smart people in the Chinese city of Chengdu who want to develop slaughterhouses in Pakistan”.

China has a high demand for beef which is why efforts are being made to introduce Pakistani beef in China. For this, the quarantine authorities in Beijing are expected to visit Pakistan to observe the local slaughterhouses.

Akhtar explained,

As this is a new development, a number of businesses are interested but they need to find the right partners who are familiar with the local environment. Additionally, the export of fresh products requires the construction of supporting facilities like cold storage.

The President of the Pakistan Sichuan Chamber of Commerce (PSCC), Li Hongwu, said,

Li Hongwu added that the member companies of the PSCC had intended to visit Pakistan at the beginning of 2020 to initiate the entire beef export chain from the breeding to the marketing but the plans had been halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another report has revealed that Pakistan’s exports to China increased by 30 percent in November, resulting in an improved trade balance between the countries.
