China being a communist state is behaving as one and got confrontation with all democracies, either far or on periphery.

Over a year ago, Mihin Lanka tried to make it their hub airport for tapping the east-west 6th freedom markets.

They got zilch. And this was not because of a lack of competition but simply because the airport simply couldn't stand the existing Colombo airport's stronghold.

Tell me something; if you are to travel from Thailand to Germany, what airport would you prefer as your hub? Dubai or Colombo? What incentive do you have to travel through Mattala? Lower fares? Not a chance as they'd be keen to at least start recovering their money.

Dubai can afford to drop their prices for a kill and finish off Mattala. Not to mention home town competition from Colombo which has much larger economies of scale for behind and beyond traffic.

That, my friend, is the economic facts which were not checked just because Rajapakse didn't favour a realistic feasibility.
