China-Sri Lanka Cooperation: News & Discussions

British exploited the power struggle between the Muslims and Hindus in India. But in Sri Lanka, British created a Tamil elite group from the scratch to dominate Sinhala majority. They created the problem in Sri Lanka rather than exploiting it.

See you skipped my question again and has begun writing page full of nonsense instead of giving a clear cut answer to my question. Be a gentleman and accept the fact that you are wrong.

Economic liberalization and privatization policies of UNP has always done massive damage to Sri Lanka. So I tend to view them with skepticism. It's non of your business what I right. I know you get butt hurt by my words.

Moreover, I didn't say Magapolis plan was totally wrong. I merely pointed out the difficulties and some stupid media stunts that needs to addressed by the authorities.

Isn't that the dictatorship? You people are eating your own foot now.

Care to explain again what is the hate speech in Sri Lanka?

Don't act ignorant. Ask a baby what's sinhala supremacism is and he would answer it.The idea that Sri Lanka belongs to Sinhalese alone and Sri Lanka is the Sinhalese country. Don't act dumb even the elephant theif in robes your God King visited was one of those poisonous snakes.

Oh no don't try to change what you said. First you said that Economic liberalisation is a "Diaspora capitalist conspiracy" quoting Dayan. And you said that Colombo shouldn't be organized

Me eating my own foot? Hikz
You are the fool who doesn't even know what hate speech is. I have explained everything when you made a fool out of yourself when you ran to defend your predecessors who destroyed this nation. So asking the same dumb question over and over again is meaningless.
Hate speech is a CRIME and a cancer for any democracy. Parasites like yourself who exploit them to keep your masters in power need to be removed for a country to prosper.

Only thing you do is repeat the same thing ALL over again and shouting conspiracies and ranting delusional nonsense unable to take the fact that your God King is no longer their to destroy this country. You can't do anything but label yourself as a "patriot" or "true sons of the motherland" like jumping into a barrel to cover yourself up to hide your treachery.
You are only trying to disrupt the country thinking that Sri Lankans are mentally retarded to believe those conspiracy theories. Sri Lankans are no longer living with cold war/colonial mentality. You can't push people into those eras just because your politicians can't survive in the 21st century.

I have added you to my ignore list Becuase you never say anything intelligent but continue to sing hymns to MR like a fanatical cultist and rants nonsense about conspiracies trying to keep Sri Lanka in the dark ages just for the survival of a bunch of low lifes

It's indeed belongs to Sinhalese as other countries belong to the majority ethnicity. Being said that no one with in the Sinhalese nationalist communities say no one else can live in Sri Lanka. What they say is to accept the fact that Sri Lanka belongs to Sinhalese and live in harmony. It's the Tamils and Muslims who think they are entitled to a special separate land mass within this small island that won't accept this simple fact.

The issue with Sri Lanka is neither Tamils nor Muslims like to assimilate into Sinhalese culture. That is the root to all of this problems.

What? Economic liberalisation is a "Diaspora capitalist conspiracy"? Well sorry to burst your bubble. It's not. But we need to be aware about the infiltration of the diaspora community to Sri Lankan economy in guise of foreign investments. That is a legitimate concern.

Colombo cannot be organized. It's too late for that unless done with massive scale resettlement of the people.

Again saying stupid things by bypassing the main issues I raised.

What is the hate speech done in Sri Lanka? Explain.

Is Lee Kwan Yew a dictator?

Answer these simple questions.

.
British are no longer taking advantage of that. It's our own people who use ethnic issues for political gain.
Singapore was able to end that by taking extreme action against anyone who promotes such ideas and educating singporeans to think with an open mind. Lee Kuan Yew even mentioned how he watched Sri Lanka fail on that side and how he avoided that problems.
In fact our civil war was completely avoidable if then governments acted properly back then and brought strict laws against hate speech
The China PLA supported Sri Lanka government to defeat Tamil Tigers . Really?

This is Sri Lanka's Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake being the bigot that he is. The current Sri Lankan government under Ranil Wickremesinghe attacked China and degraded the Chinese people in public. They made racist political statements and now they are crawling back to China because the USA and Europe aren't giving them any money. It's amusing to see them grovel after stopping many Chinese projects in the island. These 'yahapalanaya' bastards are the biggest hypocrites.

Either it be Sirisena or Rajapaksa , the most important is that your country is now at peace, and now focused on rehabilitation, growth. Sri Lanka has now surpassed the days of conflict, now it is time for national revivalism.

Focused on rehabilation and growth? Sorry, not under the current Sri Lankan government. They are busy destroying the country and seeking political revenge. There is no 'national revivalism' just national regression with idiots in power.

NEW DELHI: India is hoping to host Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena this month for a multi-religious event at Ujjain which will be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi. The visit by Sirisena, if it happens, will come at a time when India's strategic gains in the island nation over the past 15 months, or since the ouster of Sirisena's predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa, seem to be fast petering out.

India was looking to sign an Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) with Sri Lanka, which the two countries decided to negotiate after Lanka backed out of CEPA, but the proposal has run into resistance from the Rajapaksa-led Joint Opposition. China has managed to not just revive its flagship $1.4 billion Colombo Port City project, but it is now also engaged in expansion of major infrastructure projects it built in the past and which were seen as impracticable until recently.

These projects include expansion of the Hambantota port and the Mattala airport which were built by the Chinese under Rajapaksa and whose commercial viability was always suspect. China and Sri Lanka, in fact, are now also considering setting up an SEZ in what is also Rajapaksa's home district.

While Sri Lanka has assured India that it won't allow China any outright ownership of land as part of the Colombo Port project, its revival of Chinese projects, according to strategic affairs expert Brahma Chellaney, is likely to have a long-term geopolitical significance.

"Lanka, under Maithripala Sirisena's government, has reversed course and is returning into China's embrace, in part because of its precarious balance-of-payments situation and in part because Indian diplomacy still lacks teeth," says Chellaney.

Sri Lanka owes $8 billion as debt to China and it announced recently that it was looking to convert a portion of this debt into equity for infrastructure investment by Chinese companies.

As India implores China to distance itself from terrorists operating out of Pakistan, Chellaney says Sirisena's government knows that India will impose no strategic costs for reviving the very Chinese projects that Sirisena had put on hold after coming to power. "It now appears that Rajapaksa's ouster only temporarily represented a setback for China's 'string of pearls' strategy in the Indian Ocean," he says.

In fact, after PM Ranil Wickremesinghe's visit to China last month during which he reiterated Lanka's endorsement of Beijing's Maritime Silk Road, Rajapaksa was quoted as saying that he stood vindicated by the Lankan government's recent actions.

It was Rajapaksa who drove Lanka into the arms of China as his election as president in 2005 coincided with China's growing role in the infrastructure sector. China's ``no-strings overseas aid and loans" policy extended through offers to Rajapaksa soon saw China replacing Japan as largest donor to Lanka. The Rajapaksa government accepted these loans at a very high rate of interest and this is mainly responsible for the debt Sri Lanka now owes to China.

China provided assistance worth $5.056 billion to Sri Lanka between 1971 and 2012. Around $4.7 billion of this amount, or 94 per cent, came after Rajapaksa came to power in 2005. China committed funding worth another $2.18 billion after 2012,mostly loans at high rate of interest

Now, while PM Ranil Wickremesinghe remains committed to signing ETCA this year, he is having to stave off serious resistance from the Rajapaksa-led Opposition which has stoked fears about the agreement leading to loss of jobs in the country in the services sector.

As a Lankan diplomat told TOI, there are many in Lanka who believe that CEPA, which the government abandoned after many rounds of negotiations, is now making a back door entry through ETCA. The Modi government clearly has its work cut out in its ties with India's most strategically located neighbour in the Indian Ocean.

there is nothing call trust unless both nations are mutually dependent, international politic is about interest and not trust.
I agreed 100% with you.

Between nations, there is no love or trust. All nations care about are their interests.

The bottom line is money talks, bullsh*t walks.

loans with no strings attached but high interest rate, now can be converted into equity. meaning a part of the country to be handed over to china. the sri lankans are stripped off until underwear. chinese are smart business people. respect.

Do you know how high the interest rate on China loan to Sri Lanka? please don't bullsh1 but to provide some number to backup your claim. When Vietnam own money to Japan or Korea, do you think they will generously write it off, you will have to repay one way or other, I think Vietnam will have to do beyond underwear stripped off...LMAO.

don´t divert topic to VN!

I have no idea how high the interest rate sri lanka has to pay, maybe you can tell me?

from what I read, sri lanka pays up to 6.5% interest rate for your loans. run-time 10-20 years. actually it is ok. but as loan conditions, the country has to buy all stuffs from china, from machines to toilette paper. even importing chinese workers. for building all infrastructures the country does not really need, buying Chinese stuffs to show off to people they don´t know. sri lanka foreign debt is reaching the point of no return. 100% of GDP.

but as I said previously, you are smart. the people of sri lanka, well, not really.

the story reminds me of your loans to Venezuela. the country is finished, too.

No I'm not divert the topic, I just gave a example, but c'mon don't be ridiculous to say that Sri Lanka will have even buy toilet paper from China, sure China will provide what they don't have and provide skill workers like we did with Vietnam but that's normal for any big corporate to include material and skill workers as package deal in infrastructure projects.

You should begin to learn to understand the meaning behind a slang, which is a common language being used in the west.

when I say, even buying toilette paper, that means, the last of the lasts. Virtually. Similar in another thread, I said China rapes Vietnam, that you should not read nor understand the word as it is and stands. The real meaning of the author is what matters.

Or similar, when Donald Trump recently says China misuses trade rules, manipulating the yuan, raping America.

Understood?

Let me know if it is still unclear.

As for your remark about Chinese skilled workers and hitec, there is much scrap beneath.

Sri Lanka, China to hold discussions on FTA soon

6423312183.jpg

Sri Lanka and China will hold high level discussions in June on the possibility of signing a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce said in a statement. “China is a promising market for Sri Lanka’s select, premium products such as gems, and an important round of bilateral talks on Sri Lanka-China FTA is scheduled for next month,” the statement quoted Rishard Bathiudeen, minister of Industry and Commerce, as saying.

The minister said that Sri Lanka was committed to pursuing an outward oriented trade regime following the principles of the World Trade Organization, with a view to enhancing overseas market access for its export products and achieving greater integration into the world economy.

Sri Lanka has already signed free trade agreements with India and Pakistan and both the agreements allow more than 4000 product lines to be exported to these markets at zero duty.

“Sri Lanka actively involves in Joint Economic Commissions and bilateral forums with a number of countries in order to enhance our trade and commercial relations,” the minister said.

He added that trade between Sri Lanka and China crossed the 4 billion U.S. dollar mark last year for the first time in the bilateral trade history, surging by 17 percent from 2014’s 3.58 billion U.S. dollars.

About 93 percent of last year’s total trade was imports from China, mainly iron and steel, fabrics and fibres, cotton and urea fertilizer. -Agencies
