And then during the First Sino-Japanese war, when the Chinese Qing empire army/navy fleet is set to lost, but before the conclusion of the war, the Japanese parliament pass a law to annex Diaoyu/Senkaku island without telling any other nation to become part of Okinawa/Ryukyu prefecture. To these day, the Japanese still use this as their main claim.

Why would the Japanese do that if Diaoyu/Senkaku island is already historically part of Okinawa/Ryukyu?

Moreover, Japanese has to give up all territories she gained by imperial conquest by her term of surrender in WWII. Those territories include Manchuria, Taiwan, Korean Peninsular, Hong Kong, French Indochina(Vietnam), Dutch East Indies(Indonesia) and most relevantly Okinawa/Ryukyu.

These are all facts of history.

Even if we assume Diaoyu/Senkaku island is part of Okinawa/Ryukyu, but since Okinawa/Ryukyu is not part of Japan after WWII, ergo Diaoyu/Senkaku do not belong to Japan.

If you understand that, you would understand why Japanese claim on Diaoyu/Senkaku island is very flimsy to non-existence.

About a hundred year ago the events that brought about the May Fourth movement make Chinese realized that we lived in a dog eat dog world. We cannot depend on the power that be(the West) to do justice by us no matter how much we pay them. We need to do it by ourselves 落后就要挨打. We need to abandon the traditional sinocentric Confucian world view on international affair because it obviously does not fit the real world that we lived in.

A group of Marxist then formed the CCP with the goal of making China into a competitive power in as short time as possible. To realized that dream, grand risky social experiment needs to be taken. China paid a heavy price for some of those failed policy. But one cannot deny the fact that China did indeed modernize and is well on the way to a power statehood in accordance with aspiration.

China is at a mess and is very very backward compare to other nation when Mao inherit China. To modernize China, obviously drastic measure has to be taken. China can look at example of UK, Germany, US, Japan and SU/Russia. But China either geopolitical or cultural is not similar to any of this nation, therefore none of them could be directly copied. The map does not discriminate which is Chinese territory, which is tributary/vassal states. But to what extend does China considered what is theirs?
