China says Taiwan not a country, Taiwan says China needs reality check

Yeah, may be by then Mainland becomes a democratic country.
Or Taiwan becomes communist. It won't take long judging from the speed of US decline.

My friend, I am not making this up. There were ethnic Chinese who fought alongside Gandhi during Apartheid to secure their rights. In 1970s and 1980s, as Taiwan started investing in South Africa - Taiwanese were given this status but ethnic Chinese were not.
Then they are not PRC Chinese, maybe be they are ROC Chinese or even before ROC. Taiwan is ROC

The world has been hearing about US decline since 1945 - first it was the Soviets, then it was the Japanese with their LEAN engineering and products and now it is China. Every few decades there is a challenger. Best of luck.

Right - they were ethnic Chinese who had been there for generations. But preferential treatment was given only to those with a Taiwanese passport. If I remember correctly, even Japanese and Koreans were given this status.

.
Yeah, Most of the country do not recognize Taiwan.

But Taiwanese have their own Passport.

They have a small army. Having strength of around 130k. If you look at the equipments, it looks pretty decent for a good defense.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_China_Army

A decent navy, An air force close to the size of Pakistan. May be a little bit more advanced if you look at the fighters.

Taiwan, according to China is a break away province, which has it's own Private army, Navy and Air force and have their own missiles and still buying stuffs against China's will, And accidentally fired a Supersonic missile at China recently. :D

Citizens have democratic rights, can vote, hold elections. People have Individual passports etc... They have embassies, or as they call it Taipei - xyz(country) Economic and Cultural center in many countries. You need a visa to go there and you can't apply for Taiwan visa in Chinese embassy, unless you want to troll the Chinese.

So they operate like an independent country with a flag, embassy etc, make their own laws, foreign policy, have their own currency and trade, a standing army with guns pointed towards China but they aren't a separate country?

I mean if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...it must be a duck!
So what is left? Chinese sensitivity?

So they have nothing to do with PRC , they are more close to ROC since ROC has been around for a hundred years already

Maybe it is a chicken, lol, as I said, we are not in a hurry for unification ,the time is no right, when China becomes unrivaled in everything, all those things will happen naturally so China's priority is still on development for now.

China needs a reality check. Taiwan is indeed a country.

Ok, you are suggesting they are / were not citizens of PRC. I take your point. I am merely suggesting that for economic and business reason, Taiwanese have been seen as a distinct nationality for many years.

.
As for South Africa, I don't know about Apartheid, but welcome back to today's world and today's Africa and see what's happening there.

Fair enough.
Though I do have a question.
Does Taiwan have any strategic importance or relevance (I understand having a US ally in your backyard is not welcome) that China covets that land or is it simply a matter of pride for the Chinese?

But why Indian government refuses to recognize this reality?

They are ethnic Chinese people and has been part of China for at least a thousand years until the Chinese civil war that broke the country apart but anyway we all know this point now that as long as Taiwan maintains status quo everything will be ok and that's exactly what it is doing

During the 70s and 80s most overseas Chinese had much closer feeling of affinity to ROC( Taiwan) not PRC, they can apply and often being granted for ROC passports but not PRC passports.

But as a result of the status quo, you're basically giving the Americans a viable platform to monitor China no? It could also turn out to become a base for attack and refueling if push comes to shove, no?
Why allow this to happen right under your noses?
As I see it, the Chinese should have enough fire power to take over Taiwan relatively quickly! So why the restraint?
Why not pull a "Tibet"? What in your mind is so different between Tibet and Taiwan?
Same situation per se, but easier than conquering Tibet, no?

It's been like this for 70 years and now it's turn more in our favor each passing day, so we can wait. we had enough power to take over Hong Kong and Macao but we didn't, we waited until the lease was up cause we believed that served our benefits the best.

Scared of serious repercussions and resistance.

Don't want to go against US.

China now do not have the cover of cold war and Korean war, may be China is waiting for one. Who knows.

Don't think China don't want to take over Taiwan using military, they are just waiting for the right opportunity.

Taiwan is well aware of it and they often simulates a Chinese invasion

There is no lease in this case, so assuming its the US backing Taiwan that is the barrier to entry.
So waiting till the US is in decline or not able to support Taiwan?

Yeah I don't see the unification happening without aggressive action on part of the Chinese.
I also don't see aggressive action on part of the Chinese until the US unequivocally gives up on Taiwan.
So a Mexican standoff is the basic situation as I see it!
