It would be natural, as PAF would be looking for something which no one else can get its hand on so easily, since the Chinese-Pakistan cooperation in the AEW&C field is gonna go ahead miles in future, thus PAF will make sure that no one gets its hand on this tech so easily and PAF keeps its under wraps just like the rolling out ceremony was kept. Real details won't be known, nor specifications. Surprise element.

And that's a good strategy.

And PAF going with non-AESA radar platform is another riddle, which needs to be discussed and explained. May be for now PAF is not too much sure about the AESA tech of the Chinese, so opted for the older radar tech, which still if capable enough and may give us more range and capabilities compared to the AESA tech offered for now by the Chinese, may be in future it can be upgraded with the AESA option with minimal changes.

Hopefully in few months time, we are gonna see the induction ceremony and in PAF colors.

is it true?

I think that is relative.

RCS of different aircraft/missiles will result in different range.

What we should wait for is the specs on it's tracking capabilities, like cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, etc if any,

The Chinese aircraft is powered by four turboprop engines and has a greater range than offered by the Saab Microwave Systems Erieye, the sources say.

Little is known about the performance of the radar system fitted on the new Y-8 AEW. It was estimated that the aircraft may be comparable to the U.S. E-2C Hawkeye in terms of performance and capabilities.

A Truely fulfilling news indeed. I had been waiting to hear this.. Its more of a surprise that the Chinese handed all 4 of them at over togather. MAzaaa AAGAYA...

GUYS GUYS. ! THE RADAR ON ZDK-03 IS AESA... we have discussed it several times before .. sO please do not have any doubt in your minds..

Pakistan Air Force now has Aesa Radar. So that should pretty much eliminate the advantage that the Indians have had from the past several years.

Whats more significant is that Pakistan wasted an enitre decade in the 90s because of depending on the americans for modern weaponry.. This proves that Pakistan can now get whatever it wants and will not be prone to American pressure in terms of defence. the way it was in the past.. . I mean just consider the SHAPE PAF was just 10 years ago compared to India.

surly not,
the pic is from roll out ceremony. these are to go through some test and trails before formal induction into PAF. at that time t will most probably in PAF grey colors!!

First Chinese AWACS rolls out for PAF
Islamabad—The Rollout Ceremony of first Chinese ZDK-03 AWACS aircraft for Pakistan Air Force was held at Hanzhong, China on Saturday. The ZDK-03 system is an advanced Airborne Warning and Control System with sophisticated integrated sensors and communications suite. Pakistan Air Force had signed a contract in 2008 with CETC of China for the joint development of 04 ZDK-03 AWACS aircraft configured to Pakistan Air Force specifications Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The ceremony was attended by Commander PLA Air Force and other senior military and civil officials of China, a press release by PAF said here. Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman speaking on the occasion described this occasion as another milestone in the exemplary history of cooperation between Pakistan and China. He appreciated the efforts put in by all members of the Chinese team and Pakistan Air Force personnel who remained involved in the development of the system and its timely rollout. During his speech, he also emphasized on the long and enduring relationship between Pakistan and China. He said this system will strengthen the capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force to maintain peace with honour in the region. He also added that system is part of the overall Pakistan Air Force strategy of transforming its self into a lean and technologically advanced Air Force.

The Chief of the Air Staff also assured the nation that Pakistan Air Force would not spare any effort to make the defence of the country impregnable. Chairman CETC Mr. Wang Zhigang in his speech said “China and Pakistan have formed a special all-weather strategic partnership. Our cooperation is based on time honoured brotherhood which is not going to fade with passing time. ZDK-03 project is a milestone in the bilateral collaboration on national defence technology. It has received special attention and all time support from Government and Armed Forces of both countries. It is the best symbol of joint efforts made by national defence researchers from both sides.

I firmly believe the induction of Karakoram Eagle will be a positive impact on regional stability, peace and prosperity as well as, on the close bond between two military forces and two countries. ZDK-03 Project will be remembered and recorded in the history of China - Pakistan friendship, and it will be a new symbol of the all round strategic partnership of the two countries”.
