Because..., well, They have capture the whole area that they claim in Ladakh? The card is in India hand now. How will they take back those land that they lose. If India doesn't act, China will become the de facto owner of that territory that both countries claim.

Why China doesn't goes into India and Ladakh already? The answer is simple. They don't have the casus belli to do it. The justification to conquer India. They also don't have any claim on Ladakh, or Khasmir, or any India land, further than what they have got now. And because they have get the land that they claim, why bother?

You are right honestly ... had Mao been in charge of a Chinese military this strong relative to the Indian military, the entirety of north India would have already fallen under Chinese occupation .
