China PM inaugurates Pak-China Friendship Centre

ISLAMABAD: Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday inaugurated the Pak-China Friendship Centre - an icon of their evergreen relationship and a platform for promotion of their mutual cultural ties.

Chinese Premier who is on a three-day official visit to Pakistan, unveiled the plaque of the Centre at Shakarparian along with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

The foundation of the Centre was also laid by the Chinese Premier Wen in April 2005.It is a gift from the Chinese government to the people of Pakistan and has been built at a cost of Rs 2.5 billion in 22 months.

Wen Jiabao was presented bouquets by two children clad in traditional Pakistani dress as he arrived at the Pak-China Culture Centre.

Keys of the Centre were handed over by Chinese Cultural Minister Cai Wu to Culture Minister of Pakistan Pir Aftab Shah Gilani before its inaugural.

School children in traditional dresses carrying Pakistani and Chinese flags also presented dance on the occasion.

Near the ‘Crescent and Star’ famed intersection and with lush green Shakarparian hills in the backdrop, the Pak-China Friendship Centre stands distinguished depicting the splendour of unique friendly relations between the two countries.

Premier Wen Jiabao was briefed about various sections of the Centre that houses a 800-seat auditorium, conference centre for 200-250 persons, exhibition area, multi-purpose hall, and an art and dance centre over 12 acres of land. He was apprised that the Centre built by the Shanghai Construction Group would be now run by the Ministry of Culture after its inauguration.

He was told that the Centre would help enhance people-to-people contacts and help the two sides understand each others’ cultures.

The Chinese premier took round of the Centre and appreciated the work done on making the building an important cultural platform for boosting the art and cultural activities of Pakistan and China.

He visited the gallery with Chinese brush paintings and photographs put on display. The exhibition marked the iconic friendship between Pakistan and China having all the ingredients of amity, goodwill and harmony.

Premier Wen also interacted with the people who contributed towards the establishment of Pak-China Friendship Centre.

Later, he planted a sampling of Pine tree in the premises of the Centre as a gesture of growing friendly relations between Pakistan and China.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao on Saturday inaugurated Pak-China Friendship Center in Islamabad.

Hundreds of other prominent officials joined Yousuf Raza Gilani and Wen Jiabao the Inaugural ceremony.

Chinese premier Wen Jiabao said that the Pak-China Friendship Center is a symbol of deep-rooted friendship between the two countries.

The center was built at a cost of Rs 2.5 billion in 22 months.

Three hundred Pakistani and 200 Chinese laborers worked to build the center.

The center houses a modern auditorium having a capacity of more than 800 people.

Seven conference hall, exhibition centers and dining room have also been established in the center.

The Pak-China Friendship Center will also be establish in China.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabo on Saturday inaugurated Pak-China Friendship Center in Islamabad.

Wen and Gilani joined hundreds of other prominent officials from both countries in a dance-filled ceremony to inaugurate the Pakistan-China Friendship Center.

The white building, featuring a latticework façade, is to be used for cultural exchanges, conferences and other displays.

The Pak-China Friendship Center is being described as a symbol of deep-rooted friendship between the two countries.

Capital Development Authority (CDA) had provided 12 acres of land to build the center, which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 3 billion in 20 months.

More than 300 Chinese and 200 Pakistani workers and laborers worked round the clock to build the beautiful center. It houses a modern auditorium and has a seating capacity of 800 people.

In addition, conference rooms, exhibition centers, a library, dance room, make up room and dining room have also been established in the center. SAMAA

Why have you so close links with china (who has widely enough good development rate ><) while France and Europe are in recession... it's unfaire, we could sell you rafales and nuclear plants and on your side you could sell us...huh, i don't know what you've got, maybe mineral ressources or whatever you sell to chinese rather than to EU...

To be honest i don't like chinese people, >< they have stolen my uncle's job in a french Sagem technology's center with their company ZTE , they have stolen my grand father's life during the indochinese war in 52 with their financial supply , they have stolen tibet to tibetans with their mao, and when i'll be older i'll should probably fight against us for the incoming ww3...

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani inaugurated the Pakistan-China Friendship Center on Saturday.

Wen, who is on a three-day official visit to Pakistan, said he was pleased to launch the center that would be a demonstration of deep bonds between the two countries.

Gilani said the launching of the center reflects the closeness of the two peoples and the bonds of friendship and affection.

The two leaders visited a photography show at the center featuring Pakistan-China friendship, and shared with representatives from both countries their contributions to the close bilateral relations.

Wen and Gilani then planted a pine sapling in the square of the center as an icon of the growing friendly relations between the two countries.

Built in the forest garden area of Islamabad, the China-aided center is a multi-functional building with facilities for conferences, lectures, performances, exhibitions, cultural and trade activities. The foundation of the center was laid by Wen during his last visit to Pakistan in April 2005.

Wen was to conclude his official visit on Sunday after addressing a joint session of Pakistan's parliament.

China and Pakistan established diplomatic relations in May 1951. The two countries have developed an all-weather friendship and all-round cooperation since then.

China has pledged an aid package of 250 million U.S. dollars to Pakistan after the floods hit the South Asian country and affected more than 20 million people, the largest-ever humanitarian aid China has offered to a foreign country.

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday jointly inaugurated the Pakistan-China Friendship Center.

The new cultural complex built in Islamabad by China is to promote exchanges among students, media and academic circles from the two countries.

Wen laid a foundation for the center during his first visit to Pakistan in 2005.

After the inauguration, the two leaders launched the Pakistan-China Friendship Bringing-Light Tour, a move sponsored by Beijing Tongren Hospital and some Chinese companies in Pakistan to have free cataract surgery for 1,000 Pakistani patients in two years.

Addressing the ceremony, Wen welcomed the patients to tour China after their recovery, to witness the achievements and the bright future of the friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Gilani said he appreciated the Chinese initiative, noting that it is a symbol for their bilateral friendship and would help cement people-to-people contacts.

Wen and Gilani attended a symposium at the center with people who have contributed to China-Pakistan friendship, and visited a photography exhibition highlighting the history of the bilateral relations.

Outside the complex, the two leaders planted a China-Pakistan friendship tree.

Wen arrived in Islamabad on Friday for a three-day visit after wrapping up a visit to India.
