China planning naval base in Namibia

Ahahaha.... Funny. I agree though, east Asians seldom look their age. I once dated a Filipinos girl, was shocked to find out that she was a little bit older than me later on. She looked sooo young you would have thought she was a teenager.:o: Lol

I think there is already a base in Sudan, the development of one in Namibia would be perfect for you guys since it extends the PLAN's strategic range to outside the IOR, and gives you guys a strategic presence in the Atlantic Ocean Region. You guys already have a naval presence in Gwadar, Pakistan, thus you have strategic presence already in IOR.

This base from Namibia allows PLAN to reach South America, Carribbean, heck even into North Atlantic if you guys wanted to.

You guys are doing good at building your global foot print. And as always, silently and gradually.

Firstly bro, I want to correct you. There is no, again no naval presence of PLAN outside SCS. The port of Gwadher or any other like Habanbatota are civilians port, they are developed by Chinese companies. If Hyundai develop a port that doesnt means it become a naval port of SK, or if Mitubishi develops a port in India then doesnt means Japan has a naval base in India.

There is a difference between China & Japan's expansion. China will be looked at as a challanger to the western-led global order, while Japan will be look at as a contributor. But nevertheless, I look forward to both China & Japan expanding overseas, & hopefully we can co-operate instead banging heads again. The way I look at it, if we relinquish the path that fortune & fate lay before us, others will take our place. Fortune favors the bold as they say.

The balance has no true real equilibrium, it dips left & right constantly in the Great Game. It will be India's turn or Russia or Brazil or some African nation in time to come, who knows. But it would be very interesting to see how the world progress, as it has since the time where ancient kingdoms & empires rise & fall. Interesting times indeed.

Loool ehehehehe, so Japan wants to challenge the west/U.S? Good luck with that.. Just because we(west/U.S) favour Japan now as ally doesn't means Japan should take us for granted. If Japan tries to do what you just said: I.e go it alone irregardless of U.S/western cooperation , then I can assure you that you will be the next China or worse. I'm sure Japan doesn't wanna be viewed negatively by most of its smaller poor countries in Asia like Vietnam, Philippines, or small but richer ones like Taiwan, etc do we?:D The west/U.S can easily make Japan become a big bad expansionist/aggressive power.:enjoy: So be careful of what you wish for nihonji, since our governments in the west/U.S are still by far the rule makers in the world basically. :pop:

As for China, our friend Yizhi is right, the U.K and France have far more power projections capabilities/experience/advanced than china. China doesn't expand for now not because they don't want to per se, simply because they are still an immature power, reason they need 'more time' at least 15 to over 20 years as yizhi and other Chinese members here said to mature. :D So projecting power for them like the U.K,France have been doing for decades is a non starter, I'm not even mentioning the U.S who we all know is in a different league altogether. China needs to first match our (U.K &France) power projection capabilities before she can even dream of challenging the U.S. still a longgggggg way to go for that to happen. Like yizhi said maybe around 2030 upwards if we want to be optimistic.:enjoy: That remains to be seen though, since many things can happen that can slow China's growth down as well, we never know. So let's just wait and see.:P

Finally Japan should tread carefully while working/cooperating with the west in any foreign military adventure it might want to take on. Believe me that is the best solution/choice for Japan , doing otherwise will mean trouble for Japan. So Japan needs to stay the course of its alliance/cooperation with the west like it has been doing since the end of the second world war.

Thanks buddy ! What is clear is this --- China and Japan will make sure Africa and the wider Middle East is stable. We cannot rely nor should we depend on Foreigners to secure our interests. We are not EU, and their interests don't always align with ours. Remember, China and Japan are the 2nd and 3rd largest economies in this world. Thus, reasons for us to deploy forces to secure our vast merchant fleet in sensitive sea lanes is only understandable.

East Asia (China, Korea, Japan) is home to an economic machine that is worth $17 Trillion. We must never allow factors such as piracy, civil war, or excessive dependence on foreign powers to secure our interests. I think we can do the job ourselves perfectly.

That said, I support greater and greater Chinese presence abroad.

I'm not talking about Chinese Diaspora --- you're trying to make a discussion on that. And you're trying to twist around my original statement. All I said is that China is the #1 developing force in Africa. Bar None. Secondarily, that number that i gave (1 million) refers to Chinese contractors and Chinese workers -- who are currently working in Africa. That should show to you the breadth of Chinese projects and work done in that continent.

That's it. That's all.

China and Japan will make sure Africa stable - Oh how you wish. Don't delude yourself. China and other nations including India are purely in Africa to profit. Stability of that continent and/or any of its nations is the furthest thing from their minds. Ask China about stability when they sent arms via North Korea to Mugabe to crush internal dissidence in his nation. Those arms were intercepted by South Africa who refused to allow it to be sent via its territory. Or ask India about its funding of certain groups in Central Africa and Zimbabwe to hold onto its profitable stakes in the mines despite the mayhem caused by those groups. Stability my ar$e.

Thus, reasons for us to deploy forces to secure our vast merchant fleet in sensitive sea lanes is only understandable - You can send your beehives of workers into Africa. Don't try sending in any military presence. When the people go crazy there, they stop behaving human. Right now the resentment is building up on the ground against African governments' permitting Asian economic colonization of Africa.Sooner or later the bubble has to burst

I'm surprised that you do not approve of your partner's increasing contribution in the matters of military affairs. Surely you are aware that Japan's military prowess do not match her economic might, due to the restriction of Article 9. I'm sure our Japanese friends can hold their own amongst the European powers. After all, did we not witness & suffered the fighting prowess of Imperial Japan during WWII?

As for China, why worry about our mouse-like miniscule footprint of economic nature, even when we do deploy troops it is under the auspices of the UN, for the UN. Also, a few expansion of ports here & there hardly amount to much at all apart for maintenance & replenishment purposes. So sleep tight my friend, the Panda isn't a meat eater.

. . . . . .
guys, Pandas are omnivores...they occasionally eat small animals.
you really don't wanna mess with a furious panda although they usually seem peaceful and cute.

Bro, why divulge the secrets of our diet, lol. Just think Panda, Bamboo, Panda, Bamboo, ...... :cheesy:

For some reason, China is popular with African leaders. It is probably because China won't preach them 'democracy', 'human rights', or threaten them with sanctions in case they don't toe the line. Or perhaps China uses huge financial rewards in order to get contracts. Whatever the reason, China is gaining huge foothold in Africa.
