While I see where you are coming from and empathize with the same I fail to understand how liberalism could be mistaken for socialism. When you add Marxism in the cauldron you end up with a ridiculously warped idea of all three.
Islamists (from whatever little I understand of them) would be in absolute dread of marxist ideologies. Bugger was the worst kind of apostate imaginable, he denied the very existence of god and derided all forms of religion. Hell, I imagine a radical mullah would rather embrace a Jew than a Marxist if push came to shove.
Anyway back to the topic. Guess NWFP would make for quite an interesting study wrt social sciences.
you know it is awesome to have conversation with you.
while we may view things from different angles (and that is perfect), you my dear are not beholden to the dogmatic views so prevalent in our region's intellectuals.
So Thank you, than you for your humble, sane, and yet inquisitive and probing POV.
OK
Do remember that the world "liberalism" is loaded and gets interpreted by different people within a region and obviously the interpretations vary across the regions.
So let me know Which philosopher (or school of thought) within broad spectrum of the term "liberalism" do you follow the most, and how you think our region matches up with or clashes with the views of that philosopher.
May be I should open a new thread on that topic and have you get a stab at it.
Fair enough?
