India is bigger than pakistan so of course it will have more foreign reserves than pakistan......

yes that's true.

But the wealth of India once normalized over the total population should still give you a HUGE difference.

How would you account for that difference.

Hope you now understand why I am using China, India, Turkey, S Korea as examples.

With their large dollar/euro reserves, they still come out ahead of Pakistan even if you take in to account the differences such as land mass or population.

Thank you.

Not just Punjab, my family are not Punjabi, but even in our community people grew pulses back in the dark ages... And your right about "agriculture" not being the be all and end all of trades, some were traders, some were transporters, there are many other professions such as blacksmiths, hakeems, goldsmiths, fishmongers, career bureaucrats, land lords(if you can call that a profession), laborers, artisans, millers and carpenters. I don't know of any family that solely survived on "jang" as a profession...

Yaar Rescue bhai

you are the last person I'd do some unnecessary tu tu main main thing.

you understand very well from my post #21 that I was talking about overall results of different regions,

fully appreciating that every South Indian will not be computer programmer or every Delhi wala will not be a call center guy/gal

or every chinese will not be working in FoxConn making /assembling iphones.

I hope you understand this now.

We were buying billions of dollars of weapons from here and there.
Exactly! Instead of the anti India paranoia which prompts you guys to spend scarce money on nukes, which will never be used, and billions of dollars worth of weapons ranged against India, it would be a win win situation to sue for peace and tranquility so that you could spend more money on improving your economy and the standard of living of the millions who are still below the poverty line.

But that's not going to happen any time soon! Would the extremists and the dozens of terror groups allow you to do that? No! They have a vested interest in keeping the pot boiling.

The security situation that has resulted in turmoil has prevented investment in industry, tourism and infrastructure. Money is scarce. Unless the security situation improves, investments will be hard to come by. For that the Pakistan Establishment needs to stop playing around with groups inimical to Pakistan's interests in the long run.

So, it's going to be more of the same where Pakistan is concerned. India being a far bigger economy, can withstand these pinpricks, but Pakistan can't and therefore would continue to teeter on the edge. Until of course there is a paradigm shift in its anti India policies and the proxy war it is waging against it where millions of dollars are being spent.

It has been calculated that trade between Pakistan and India can reach heady levels - $20 billion and more within 5 years if there is peace between us. But then, unfortunately, vested interests especially your defence establishment, will never let that happen. They will continue with the 'Indian bogeyman' syndrome. But then, you know who's losing out in the long run.

Btw @Fauj
you didn't get back to me on post no. #19 yet ;)

Might I add it's quite refreshing and encouraging to see a genuine voice of reason and rationality in this crowd. Hope more of us could be the same.

I was generalizing too.. just wanted to point out that size of a country (or shape or colour for that matter :P) doesn't have any correlation whatsoever with its prosperity or economic clout. Can go on for a few paragraphs explaining why, but that would just be derailing the thread.

And as far as UK is concerned trust me when I tell you this .. Miliband, Clegg or Cameron are all united in one agenda.. and that is to reduce social expenditure, kick most of us expats including romanians out  and reduce fiscal deficit ( i should know, been fighting all november for a pay hike to conform with the forthcoming visa regime :-/ )

Hell I suspect all three of em are secretly in league with the EDL. :fie:

UK is on the way to full economic recovery in the next five years.

Cheers and peace out.

Chinese can say the same $hit about India too.

Please do not cr@p in this thread

The idea is to make sure Pakistani posters realize the economic issues and then perhaps figure out what to do about it.

By putting numbers from China, India, Turkey, South Korea etc. in the OP was meant to provide overall view and not start the usual Indo-Pak "my $hitck is bigger than yours".

So please do not mess up the thread.

Thank you.

What's common between Pakistani Liberals and Pakistani Islamists?

I would like to believe nothing .. .

Perhaps we need to update the "belief system" then.

Pakistani liberals and Islamists both share their

--- absolute love of socialism (Ok Islamist tend to go with Hazrat Umer rah / Karl Marx)
--- absolute hate for the anything USA

Thus the two work as a tuning fork in the society, where each passing minute increases the destructive anti-global, anti industry, pro-anarchy mad yelling.

What you see in Pakistani North West right now may look like Islamist burning down the state of Pakistan

But you and many others fail to see

the fuel for this fire comes from our leftist liberals aka socialists.

The socialist lies and Islamists lies are so deeply entrenched that now people reproduce them on TV and news media as if these are the divine truths.

And hence we remain in the deep shit aka economic morass.

hope this helps.

While I see where you are coming from and empathize with the same I fail to understand how liberalism could be mistaken for socialism. When you add Marxism in the cauldron you end up with a ridiculously warped idea of all three.

Islamists (from whatever little I understand of them) would be in absolute dread of marxist ideologies. Bugger was the worst kind of apostate imaginable, he denied the very existence of god and derided all forms of religion. Hell, I imagine a radical mullah would rather embrace a Jew than a Marxist if push came to shove.

Anyway back to the topic. Guess NWFP would make for quite an interesting study wrt social sciences.
