China, Pakistan deepen Sri Lanka ties at India’s expense

Lol so many wasted attempts to bring animosity among Indians...
How much ever u try to flame tamils it won't work...
I really dunno what are u trying to do by callin us madrasis , I mean there is nothing to feel bad about it , moreover its a valid name if not outdated,so you are welcome to address us as madrasis...
Whether u see as a tamil or an Indian we have always been on moral high ground..
But u SL will always be on the wrong side of the history and will be always looked down upon for showing your bravery to unarmed civilians and children...
The fact that world listens to few thousand NRI tamils than your president shows your worth...

Indian sense of entitlement is astonishing. Indian PM is not going to SL due to local politics and Indians expect SL to close its door to those who want to enhance their relationship. Though terms like 'insignificant, zero voice, foot of India' should be telling sign for international audience of PDF. Sadly its not just the Hindutva trolls but such behaviour echoes in Indian official state policy.

And it proves why countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and SL should strengthen their relaionships.
For example SL import a lot from india, as far as i know we can import all these stuff from Pakistan and Bangla. we should create more economic partnerships that would strengthen each other's country.

Another fact the manpower capability of armies of SL, Pak, Bangla and nepal combined is more than that of india. That too keeping china off the equation.
Well small, weak countries always dislike large, powerful countries. You will find examples all over the world. But large countries learn to live with the irrational fears of their smaller counterparts.

You can say that to small countries like SL and nepal but when it comes to Pak and Bangla that is not true. If became secular and modernized Pakistan can become a serious threat to india. I mean it has all the potential!

It will not help the cause of BN, Pak and SL to ignore India. If Indian Subcontinent is to develop fully than regional integration between all countries of SAARC is important.

Pakistanis don't want to become secular. If they were to become secular, this is the right time. In the future when all religious minorities would have left the country, it won't make any sense to be secular. BTW there's no reason to believe that secular Pak would be any more threat to India than it is today. In fact, Pak becoming secular will only make Indo-Pak relations stronger.

Ha ha from annexing the weak nations to regional integration? you were talking about annexing SL and how the rest of South asia is weak and unimportant and when i reminded you where you stand, it is regional integration. you are a source of ebtertainment, you just have picked the wrong platform!

whether Pakistan would be secular or not is their concern, anyway if they become secular they will be the winner. I was talking about economic and other fronts. A secular pakistan would be prosperous as decision making would be done based on rationality and they would attract investments and better economic connections from non muslim countries especially the west.
If anyone benefitted from pakistani's current struggle with religious fanatics it was the india.

When did I said about annexing SL? Do not confuse others' posts with mine. Develop better observation and memory skills. As for Pak, their religious fanatics cause a lot of problem in India too. So, India will benefit from a secular Pak.

For the bolded parts:

No, no and no. Neither Pakistan nor Bangladesh has anywhere near as much industrial capability as India.

India's economy is about 6 times bigger than all other South Asian economies combined. Population as well.

All arms of the Indian military are superior both qualitatively and quantitatively to the combined military's for the entire subcontinent. Now keep in mind that all of South Asia are VERY good friends with India (barring Pakistan). All the malcontents from each country comes to these forums for a bitching session, it is not indicative of the true facts on the ground. China also has pretty good relations with India, in fact I can see the beginnings of a new strategic partnership. No country can afford a billion+ pissed off enemies.

Pakistan will never come close to challenging India in economic terms. It's economy is 9 times smaller than India. There's $1.7T separating the two country's economies and the gap is growing.

Now I'm VERY pro-Lanka, having visited twice, very close SL friends, an ex who was Lankan and so on. But what you've said above is completely wrong. Stop being emotional, this is just the Internet.

Excellent point Machun.. I've always felt as a person of South Asian heritage that it was one of the great tragedies of our times.. A secular republic that Pakistan started off with would have made it one of the regional leaders by now akin to Turkey or even more powerful given the richer culture it inherited but alas short sighted politics made it in to a battle field between religious fundamentalists and an increasingly endangered secularists fighting for a just society..

I hope my Pakistani friends wont misconstrue my post.. It's my fervent hope and best wish for a prosperous Pakistan..

Even I am very pro indian person. For your information, I study and learn about indian history. And my comment didn’t come as a result of comments from Indians in this forum. Remember there is a difference between the country and the politics.
What I wanted to say is we import a lot from india and the biggest winner of economic pacts between india and SL is Tamilnadu. I don’t mind importing from rest of india but why should we send money to Tamil Nadu. I am not kidding a simple travel advisory from Lankan gov made textile shops in TN lose a large amount of money. If you check an average Lankan is more prosperous than an average Indian (don’t get me wrong) and they spend a lot.
It doesn’t matter what how much large india is when compared with Pakistan, what matters is we can import most of the stuff that we import from India from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
When I said SL+BANG+PAK military manpower, I meant the manpower in the armies not populations in the country. It is true Indian army is more advanced but the biggest strength in any army is not technology but manpower, in other words how many you can put to death in order to kill one of your enemies.
And no Pakistan can very well challenge India if it puts their things in order. A prosperous Pakistan will would not be able to ignore for the west. It is true when compared to india Pakistani population is small, but in comaparison with the world it is a large population. It is in the middle of a geo political important place. It can have influence on Afganistan and the fact that they can get support from a whole section of the world (arab countries) gives it a lot of advantages over india.
If they correct their things they have all the potential. Even today with so much problems Pakistan is an industrial country. So it is good because in South Asia, there would be a balancing power also. :D

It become a craze in Indian neighbourhood coutries to get attention of India by doing all short of seemingly dangerous but in reality funny and childish moves.
in case u didnt noticed its economic times who has reported it and its an american source.
Whatever happens in the end it will be Srilanka who will be in a better position to chose who is their friend or not.

I don't think that guy was talking about the news article. BTW Economic Times is an Indian newspaper.

a) I know that the average Lankan is more prosperous. That is irrelevant in this discussion.
b) What products can you important from Pakistan? Do tell. And keep in mind it has to be cheaper and of better or equal quality etc.
c) The entire armed forces of each country added together still does not come anywhere near as close to India. Look up Indian paramilitaries, reserves, etc.
d) Pakistan can never compete with India militarily or in terms of development. That is a fact. That wasn't the case in the past however.
e) Pakistan has negligible influence on present day Afghanistan.
f) India has as many problems as Pakistan (if not more). There problems are of their own creation. "If they correct their things they have all the potential." That statement applies to ALL nations worldwide, their problems are deeprooted into their national fabric, its not going to change anytime soon.

Pakistan has a $200B odd economy. To put it in perspective, India in its peak growth period a couple of years ago added more to its economy every year than all of Pakistan. That was without the strategy planning and infrastructure that is being worked on right now.

Arab countries (esp Oman) have VERY good relations with India as well as Pakistan. Once again irrelevant.

Another fact, the city of Mumbai + surrounds is more productive than all of Pakistan put together. Also a much faster growth rate.

I havent seen much Lankans showing their stupidity and most of their comments have been reactionary. It is the indian idiots that need to learn to behave themselves.

a) I know that the average Lankan is more prosperous. That is irrelevant in this discussion.
Relevant to my point. That is indian traders (especially textile sector) get a lot of revenue from SL. And SL is a market that they cant ignore. Actually once SL raised tax on indian vehicles, indian companies seeked help from indian gov to help them. And 10% of the revenue of Bajaj is from SL. And as I stated earlier TN textile industry get a lot of revenue from SL and a travel advisory from SL made them lose much of them.

b) What products can you important from Pakistan? Do tell. And keep in mind it has to be cheaper and of better or equal quality etc.
Whether it is cheaper and better is not your concern, it is the concern of the buyer (us). The point is we can substitute. Also the coming SL-China trade agreement will see a boom in Chinese products in SL. That could replace indian products in SL. For you to know India is the main importer in SL. China could change that.
We import vegetables, textiles from india both of them can be imported from Pakistan. India is the main player in supplying pharmaceutical items to SL, which again SL can buy from upcoming Bangla companies. So the space is there. And you are not in a state to ignore SL. SL is small when compared with India but it is the 50th largest population in a world of 170+ countries. So SL is NOT certainly a country to be ignored businesswise.

c) The entire armed forces of each country added together still does not come anywhere near as close to India. Look up Indian paramilitaries, reserves, etc.
May be compared with paramilitaries and reserves india could get the top, but still the rest can give a good punch. And again not a negligible punch that many of you can ignore! And the strength of SL army lies in garilla warfare which I am sure Indian army is not good at like SL army.

d) Pakistan can never compete with India militarily or in terms of development. That is a fact. That wasn't the case in the past however.
No, it can if it put things in order. Pakistan can give a serious competition. Even during such difficult days one would be amazed how industrial sector in Pakistan is growing and not affected.

e) Pakistan has negligible influence on present day Afghanistan.
Really? Pakistan has its proxies in Afghanistan. And I didn’t talk about a present day Pakistan, but a Pakistan which is prosperous and secular which would win the trust of the western countries. That is via economy and religion.

f) India has as many problems as Pakistan (if not more). There problems are of their own creation. "If they correct their things they have all the potential." That statement applies to ALL nations worldwide, their problems are deeprooted into their national fabric, its not going to change anytime soon.

I don’t think india has the same problems that Pakistan today encounters. The problem with Pakistan lies in the center and even in its policy making, which is not the case with India. The religious fanatics in Pakistan made countries like US and rest of the west to look for other alliances where India came handy. And that helped india. Otherwise Pakistan would have grown a lot. I don’t think India would ever be able to match what Pakistan is to the Arab world. All the countries have problems but some countries have problems that would hit them harder and break down its all system. Once such issues are sorted out, they can grow. That is the case with Pakistan.

I am normally not a person that compare countries, but I want to state the fact india is NOT in a position to ignore its neighbours. That is for many indian fools here who has got an internet connection recently.
