U asked the right question buddy. And Yes your govt. people till recently was a fool in investing in American treasury bills.
China is a export driven economy with huge trade surplus ( for that i respect u ppl's hard working nature ) but your economists didnt had a clue where to park that money. They were compelled to invest in American treasury bills. They had no other option.
If dollar rate would have been decided by gold reserves then it would have been wise to do so but it aint. And your quest to keep yuan undervalued wrt $ have led to low interest rates in US. The day they go bust, so will ur govt. and when u ppl go bust, they will surely do. China's and US's destiny is inter twined. So, china and us are in the same boat. China aint out running US.
