China moves to counter India with arms sales to Pakistan

Good news for Pak

Beijing’s first export of J-10C jets marks step-up in decades-old arms relationship with Islamabad

China will deliver 25 J-10C fighter jets to Pakistan within weeks as part of a deal that will bolster Islamabad’s military capabilities against mutual rival India.

Beijing’s first export of the advanced jets marks a big step-up in its decades-old arms relationship with Islamabad and entails providing its ally with some of the latest equipment that China’s own armed forces are using. China will also broaden its support to Pakistan’s navy.
The first batch of the combat aircraft is being tested in Chengdu, the base of its manufacturer Chengdu Aerospace Corporation, according to a journalist at a Chinese military publication.
“They will be transferred to Pakistan once Pakistan air force pilots and technicians have completed an introduction to the aircraft,” he said.

Senior officials in Islamabad said the jets would be delivered before the end of the month.
Last week, Chinese and foreign military watchers posted photos and a video showing several J-10C aircraft flying the colours of the Pakistan air force on social media.
China is also selling Pakistan four Type 054A frigates, the first of which began service in November, and is expected to begin delivery of up to eight Type 041 submarines, its quietest attack submarine, this year.
India, which has been engaged in a stand-off on its Himalayan border with China for nearly two years, believes the arms deliveries to Pakistan are an attempt to amplify the threat from Islamabad. India shares long land borders with both Pakistan and China.

“There’s a clear strategic nexus between China and Pakistan,” said Brahma Chellaney, a professor of strategic studies at the Centre for Policy Research, a New Delhi think-tank. “That nexus is clearly designed to contain India, to pin India down and keep it preoccupied. That’s the Chinese strategic aim.”
He described the latest arms deals as a significant shift, adding that “China is now selling or transferring its top of the line weapons systems to Pakistan”.

The J-10C aircraft will help Pakistan close the air-power gap with India following New Delhi’s acquisition of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France. “This is our response to [India’s] Rafale,” Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, Pakistan’s interior minister, said when he revealed the J-10C agreement in December.

The new Chinese ships would boost Pakistan’s capabilities in the Indian Ocean, an area of strategic importance for Beijing.
“They want Pakistan to have naval bases ready that China could also use, and to be able to protect them,” said Siemon Wezeman, an arms trade expert at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
“The Chinese have shown that they will sell to Pakistan when others won’t. I suspect that China is very easy to persuade [to sell], not only for commercial but also for political reasons,” he said.
India is also planning a naval expansion. The navy’s deputy chief said late last year that it aimed to increase the size of its fleet from 130 vessels to 170 by 2027, including four frigates being developed in partnership with Russia.
Despite the upgrades, Chellaney said the Himalayan stand-off was draining India’s defence resources. “The Indian navy is supposed to be undergoing modernisation, but the modernisation is happening at a relatively slow pace, largely because of the land military confrontations that India faces,” he said.

China has maritime and territorial disputes with 18 neighbours. EIGHTEEN.

It isn't with Nepal, they have serious border and boundary issues with India. Their forces open fire frequently on Indian civilians.
Bangladesh also has issues border and maritime wise.
You also mentioned Sri-Lanka, and bizarrely Mauritius and the Maldives. None of these states have shared land boundaries with India. Yes they share a massive body of water, but so do many countries.

The generation old Western dream of pitting India against China. Pakistan plays the spoiler every time.

This article was a complete waste of time.

China has superior strategy. India should make peace & work for the regional connectivity & development.
See, that's what I cannot understand, we have the European model and their history; they gave up animosity and hatred, decades of mistrust and deep deep wounds to flourish into a block of financial and technological superiority. Why cannot we do the same? We have lived and fought together, we may have a bad history but we also have good history so why do we not concentrate on the benefits?

This region has the potential to become the next Europe in a few decades and overtake the world economy within a few more........Alas, we are too blind to see!!!

Mauritius and the Maldives. Indian psyche is that they consider themselves as "maama" of this whole region:

"Zaat di korh-killi
Tay, chhateeraan noon japhay"

Excellent - that is the whole point of the confrontation - to drain India and make it rethink its decisions.

What about the rest; Legs, Head and Bodies!

Wouldn't you say this would also apply to Pakistan, especially with regards to 1 and 2, our internal is very much stable except terrorism. After all, our downward trajectory only came about after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Nationalisation was also a factor but that was malleable.

Pakistan is projected to have a population of 400+ million, if 1 and 2 are controlled, then a nation of 400 million is a potential world power by any measure.
For Pakistan the 2nd point is not as bad as its in India, for Pakistan it will be more about dealing with the corrupts and criminals

China only has land territorial disputes with India. China and Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei and Malaysia have disputed islands(China and Indonesia have only a small dispute over the exclusive economic zone, and there is no dispute over territory and territorial sea).

So there are 8 countries, not 18 countries.

However, the disputed territory between China and most countries has not affected bilateral relations. A clear evidence is the Democratic summit convened by Biden last year.

China has 40+ neighbors, but only India, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and Indonesia. Five countries attended the US democracy summit.
Pakistan, Malaysia and other countries directly refused to attend the meeting. The Philippines attended the meeting, but Philippine President duterte directly criticized the human rights situation and pseudo democracy in the USA. Indonesia participated in the meeting but refused to speak at the meeting. On the same day that South Korea announced its participation in the summit, it announced its support for the Beijing Winter Olympics and cancelled trade negotiations with Taiwan officials.
In fact, the only neighbors who are really hostile to us are India and Japan.

Instead, let's look at India. How many of India's neighbors hate you? All your neighbors don't like you.

despite indian wet dreams, brahmos isnt magic. all unsc P5 members knows how to make supersonic anti-ship missiles for decades. they haven't gone full in on it because it has major drawbacks, in having to fly high and hot and thus be way easier to detect.
many countries that are able, do subsonic sea hugging with a supersonic final sprint to have the advantage of both lesser detection range and fast final close in.

Also, india has no indigenous technology worth a damn to the RoC. Brahmos is made with russian technology and because of that, any sales may get a russian veto. and russia and china are pretty close atm.

Whenever i think of made in India products, i remember song from Alisha “made in India” lol 😂

This is the same old hypocritical message.
If Pakistan does or buys something, it is inherently against someone else, especially India. Yet, if India or anyone else gets anything, no ulterior motives are applied.

The usual double standards BS when it comes to Pakistan.
Pakistan is the 5th largest country in the world, it will fill its defence needs to meet potential threats, like every other country in the world.

This BS double standard message needs to stop.

Indians think we need permission from them to buy any weapon while they have got permission from the clouds to buy what ever they want. If we buy anything either its conspiracy against them or going to be used against them. I will say to that give back our Kashmir and you will sleep better at night and that will improve your economy and India will be a super powa in 2020 or may be in 2019.

India's trouble with neighbours archive:

1. Nepal - Rivalry between both and relations are bad underneath the surface
2. Sri Lanka don't like India due to tamil tiger issues as India waged decades long proxy war on them..
3. Bangladesh frenemies with competitive edge between the two
4. Burma is Chinese client state
5. Maldives unwanted by public
6. Pakistan they won't mind taking their heads clean
7. China annexation rival
8. Afghanistan - Indian media destroyed any future relations

The only friend is Bhutan:lol:
