China lodges protest after Obama approves Taiwan frigate sale

numbers game, lame. If numbers matter China and India would still dominate, but we are where we are because it doesn't. I rather we be 1.3 billion useful people, than 1.3 billion morons too lazy, and comfortable to even change the channel.

We will continue this technological advancement in all fields because we have competition, like the Mars Missions, we wouldn't have made it a priority if India wasn't involved, but now that they are we must work to surpass them in the field without question, and thus the 2020 Mars rover.

Like a very important man once said, get your foot off my couch and get the hell out of my office.

Why are you thinking so inwardly? I think more outwardly and think of the broader perspective. The future for our region is to expand together, and to develop together. The future is in the heavens, @Genesis . The natural resources in this planet is finite, and will run out soon, fighting over for scraps will only lead to conflict and the loss of lives for our people.

The final answer to our energy needs is Helium-3, which will fuel nuclear fusion, and an provide unlimited energy. This can be mined in the moon, or in the gas giants in our solar system as well as in our immediate milkyway. I think that the space programs (successful at that) of Japan, China, United States will be indispensable to this goal. Energy security.

Together, East Asia can secure our resources. Together we can colonize new worlds and expand.

The British Empire took off from just a few million men and a small *** island.

You don't need the men power, you need the drive. If you don't have it, you are a nobody, you are Ryan Leaf, the biggest bust in Sports History, but if you have it, it doesn't matter if you don't have the speed, the power, or the body, you are Tom Brady, and you are kicking *** and taking names in Foxboro.

I think broader, but the fact of the matter is, I rather we been driven, than big. Don't be Alex Smith, be Aaron Rogers.

My friend, we know full well what is going in the volatile areas of the world such as in Subsaharan Africa, Middle East and parts of South and Central Asia where conflict is rampant. We , as East Asian Race, should not wish that kind of instability and disharmonious state to ever befall on our Region. East Asia must remain peaceful, developing and progress together. We are, as a region, integrating already. Let us hope that our respective leaders will see the wisdom of peaceful development.

Excellent critical historical perspective The turmoil in the Middle East alone should remind us of the value of regional peace and integration. In that, Northeast Asia (Greater China, Japan, Unified Korea and Russia) is the anchor of peace in entire East Asia, including the down south.

Why not? I dream of an East Asian Union, something similar to that of the European Union, but one that is composed of only China, Japan, South Korea (+ North Korea), Taiwan.

Think about it: China (1.3 billion people + $10 Trillion economy) + Japan (128 million people + $5 Trillion economy) + South Korea (50 million people + $1.7 trillion economy) + Taiwan + North Korea. Combined, the region has the man power, has the economic clout, has the technological capability, to meet any threat.

That's a strong Pan-Asianist vision right there, which I fully agree with.

We need to develop further a discourse of integration. It is not just the politicians; academia must also develop an Asian integration/Greater East Asia discourse based on loose but closed regionalism and region to region interaction. Numbers are important, so are political wisdom and social stability. If these three are brought together, East Asia will be one of the pillars of the new multipolar world.

No need to be rosy about the existence of the challenges (political and security), including the large foreign presence which, so long as they remain, renders an integrated East Asia a pipe dream.

China should do its homework by economically integrating and politically respecting (the full sovereignty of) its NE Asian neighbors while the neighbors must do their homework by taking their own destiny in their own hands. This means, first and foremost, the removal of the foreign military presence in East Asia.

On the other, it may be hoped that increased peace and integration in NE Asia will by default render that foreign presence obsolete. But why wait so long?

Taiwan acts as an independent nation, they need coastguard vessels, patrol boats to protect their EEZ.
Anyway, they are useful as mobile missile launchers too.

If China can sell arms to Pakistan, then USA can also sell arms to Taiwan, simple.

@Nihonjin1051 I'd like to hear your opinions on Taishang's red comments. Why the silence? :D Let me repeat his question, why wait so long?

We should thanks the Taiwan frigate sale from U.S side.
  1. Thanks Washington D.C to teach BeiJing, "big mouth" & "verbal protest" is so useless & poor.
  2. Thanks U.S to teach China, this world only trust national strength, no mercy.
  3. Thanks American to teach Chinese, how to play diplomatic policy & make more conflicts to the rival.
  4. Thanks mainland of China market, provide many money for TaiWan to buy 4x old FFGs from U.S.
China should learn how to become a new superpower like the U.S did for our interests. :coffee:

China already knows these. Anyone who can read classical Chinese literature (Hanzi version) know these rules. We are human, sometimes we forget. US is the alarm clock reminder for China.

This is worthy of a response that takes into consideration various axes of consideration. Let's start a new thread for this, @TaiShang . :)

When the United States established diplomatic relations with China, Signed a joint communique, already show the front, do you read? The US recognizes that Taiwan is part of China, is China's internal affairs ,and, excuse me, who admitted and signed the Pakistan is part of India?

If USA accepts Taiwanese passports, then they also recognize Taiwan as an independent sovereign state.

passport does not confirm a nation, it is common sense, one example in China, we have Hangkong passport, Macao passport which are acceptable everwhere. many districts in the world have their special passport too.

on the other hand, look the Republic of China( taiwan) officially claiming territorial map, so please don't mix up taiwan and ROC.
there is no twaiwan passport for the time being.

Taiwan handed over to japan by Qing dynasty in April 1895 with treat of shimoneski. ?? What happened to that treaty.

have you ever seen a Taiwan passport??

The passport is written " Republic of China, Taiwan area"

not " Republic of Taiwan",
Taiwanese officials also admitted that Taiwan belongs to China,
Are you still looking for a pretext to interfere in internal affairs of China?

In 1945, after Japan's surrender in World War II, Taiwan officially return to China
