North India, especially Cow belt, eastern states are regressive in their culture and attitude. Who told you that India is a import dependent country? If India were import dependent, the prices in India should be have higher and not lower because India would import things in dollars, hence the prices it sets in the domestic market should also be higher...much higher than what is prevalent in India . For your information, India is self sufficient in major essential commodities except oil. In fact India is one of the largest producers of essential commodities in the world.
