China Is Still A 'Poor' Country

Indeed.. China is still very poor nation and developing.
Hundreds of million people living in poverty. That's why we need to work harder.
Meanwhile india already developed.. congrats , really inspired developing nation :-)
Havent the government already stated that it aims to be at least a middle income nation by 2020? This shows that china acknowledges that it's still n the stages of striving to become at least an average nation in terms of wealth, n that more work needs to be done- especially development in the western provinces.

Blessed with the privillege of bilingualism, I have not seen EVEN a single chinese source(english or chinese) that proclaims china as striving to be a world superpower. Even the tabloid Globaltimes lack such expressions in its articles or commentaries.

It's always Western or Indian(subconcious psychological projection onto others?) sources that incessantly mentions china's goal to do so?

Nominal doesn't say anything about the living conditions. 5 time richer by dollars is of no value. Compare GDP per capita by ppp. Things I buy in China are twice costlier than in India.

you are telling me with, say like, USD50 you can buy 30 big Macs while in China you can only buy 15. The difference is when you are eating a big Mac combo, you are more likely seeing the revolting sights of human/animal wastes outside of an indian Macdonald than anywhere else on earth. So dont be jumping yet on the delusions of ppp of your economy. The use of ppp to evaluate the wholesome welfare of a country is limited. ppp is not a biblical guide for all. Get It?

Over 37% of your schools dont have electricity and your country is in constant power crisis.
Your railways, bridges, buildings are crashing / collapsing.
You annual deficit budgets are living off NRI remittances and loans.
You have tons of resurging and deadly diseases haunting you in a big way due to nationwide filthiness and neglect of personal/public hygiene in india.
Your kids were dying because of lack of O2 in public hospitals
Even in big cities like Bombay, roads are frequently flooded like rivers in each monsoon seasons
Your suicidal rates of your farmers hit the guiness book of records.
You are one of the top three countries where reporters/journalists get murdered.
Even when dead, your ppl cant have the last dignity where stray animals like dogs and rats are feasting on the corpses.
You have rampant and highly digusting cases of R and D constantly.
You have lost your position as call-center of the world to the Philippines
Vast number of your university graduates are unemployable and some 800 engineering schools are closing down ...

We still have sizeable poor folks like in the ball park of 60 million(?!)
We pride ourselve the best amongst developing countries in eradicting poverty. Where is india?
China has almost wiped out urban poverty. Now it must tackle inequality
China has lifted more people out of poverty than anywhere else in the world: its per capita income in increased fivefold between 1990 and 2000, from $200 to $1,000. Between 2000 and 2010, per capita income also rose by the same rate, from $1,000 to $5,000, moving China into the ranks of middle-income countries. Between 1990 and 2005, China’s progress accounted for more than three-quarters of global poverty reduction and is the reason why the world reached the UN millennium development goal of halving extreme poverty. This incredible success was delivered by a combination of a rapidly expanding labour market, driven by a protracted period of economic growth, and a series of government transfers such as the above urban subsidy, and the introduction of a rural pension.

It is true that China is still a "poor" and developing country. Relative, its GDP per Capita is relative low. Even though China have done an amazing job of bring hundreds of millions of people out of poverty and now the second largest economy in the world, there are still a lot to do. However, there is no shame of still being a "poor" country as no country have ever developed and achieved as much as China in such short time.

It is a good thing China have a practical and forward looking government that understand there are still a lot to do develop the country.

China is still a poor country, this is true. China's leaders have constantly said that China is still a developing country.

Now the question for Indians is, if China with a GDP per capita (nominal) of over $8000 is a poor country (which is true), what is India with a GDP per capita (nominal) of around $1500? :P Poor wouldn't even describe it.
That's the main difference. Accepting the reality with an open mind and then working hard to change it for better is what distinguishes the successful nations from the self deceiving, conceited slum dogs who go bananas if some CEO reminds them of their place.

they picked wrong subject

Actually they don't have a house...they live in slums so they are free to throw stones
I guess ill need to rephrase my sentence.

@ZeEa5KPul, bro. Are you Buddha's palm? You remind me of him. ;)

If I get banned again it's gonna be for a YEAR. No longer days, weeks or months.

Come out Indians. I am in the mood to troll with you all now. It's an open challenge. :)

Nah, bro. That guy was from before my time; from the few posts I could dig up, the dude seemed like a real G. I take inspiration from the mythical palm and deliver -- as our Hindu friends like to say -- ringing slaps.

My slaps keep their heads ringing.

You're as humble as ever. The way I've read your post. You should be a "winner winner, chicken dinner" guy. ;)

If Hindus really 'added value' to Australia, the locals would be grateful. But in reality, Aussies are always bashing Hindu brains out of their skulls for some reason. Perhaps animosity to Hindus is caused by Hindu behavior. After all, Hindus bring death and suffering where ever they go - it's as if they want to recreate the third-world conditions in India abroad:

Of course it still is a poor country. It is a developing country, period. I don't understand all the jibber jabber about it becoming a superpower, should take bigger responsibility, all that kind of crap.

. . .
Let us not make fun of poverty. Poor people are same everywhere...they don't have basic things such as house, cloth and food etc...that we take for granted.
exactly, I am not able to fathom why ppl are such heartless jack asses denigrating poor ppl.
Pictures of poverty breaks my heart, especially when its kids.

China has a long way to go but I'm confident that the worst cases of poverty in China will be nearly eliminated before the end of Xi Jinpings term.

I wish India the very best in their elimination of poverty.
, well said. As humans we should ensure our fellow humans live a dignified life.
