the mongols were once the most powerful conquerers anywhere in the world. these nomadic tribes under the great chinggis khan from the steppes of east asia carved out one of the largest empires ever. but today, things have changed for the mongols. their entire population is about 2.7 million (mongolia/outer mongolia), which is about the size of some of the worlds largest standing armies. they are also landlocked, stuck between 2 of the worlds biggest nuclear armed countries and nowhere to go.

mongolia should just stay neutral.

Not unless you get permission to fly over Russia or China airspace, its a military plane not a civilian airline.

Lets face it without China or Russian support there no hope whatsoever of establishing any base there whatsoever. If it were that easy the US would have done so eons ago.

In fact mongolia depend more on China for daily basis used products, there is more cross border trade between China-Mongolia than mogolia Russia, not only that, Mongolian gorvernemnt got financial and construction were done by Chineses, I just laughed at someone here saying that India should make Mongolia depent on them

the only way for Mongolia to depend on India...is free donation...or if India become tributary state of Mongolia for periodic donation

Mate there are only 2, both of which are powerful enough not to want a 3rd party meddling in their affairs. Mongolia only economic hope now is to supply raw materials primarily to China given the proximity to the cities and some outlying Siberian outpost.

I've traveled to all 3 countries by land including Siberia, the distance and terrain to move even simple industrial equipment from Russia is no joke. Its much more practical to bring things in from China.

Indian Army chief's visit to Mongolia is a step forward to enhance our ties with Mongolia... Only the newspapers are saying that this step is taken to counter Chinese antiques in Indian ocean... I think it is the time for both India and China to focus on economic growth and to lead Asia as economic power house...

The Chinese are up against Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan & by proxy the USA.

We're up against Pakistan, possibly Bangladesh and possibly Sri Lanka. I think we're faring better at the minute despite the countless predictions of India's doomsday by the love birds.

Good step but we need to increase the pace of the alliance.

Make Mongolia economically more and more dependent on India and have a military base there in future.

Mongolia is totally land locked with no common borders with India. Also, India has to be very careful of Russian sensibilities while engaging with Mongolia. Same applies for Vietnam. The fact that India is actively engaging with both Mongolia and Vietnam implies that our activities have the concurrence of Russia. Look at this part of the world through the prism of Indo-Russian relations, a clear pattern emerges.

That's why i say we need to remain neutral between Russia and USA but in other cases we should go ahead with the friendship with Russia as it will give us leverage over central asia, east asia and UNSC etc.

With the help of Russia we can encircle pakistan, china. Yeah Russians don't need to back us directly we just need their silent support that they allow us to do it.

If we ignore Russia and go by USA we will be the biggest looser and Russia will go for china, pak.
