China-Egypt Cooperation (Suez Canal, New Cairo, etc): News & Discussions

Wouldn't that waterway also pass very close to India's territorial waters - just like the earlier route through Malacca Straits?

With Choke points still well within India's reach from Nicobar Islands, India wouldn't complain either!

You want to choke a country that has more submarines (around 70) than all of India's destroyers+submarine+frigates combined? Twice over? That sounds smart. :P

In any case the long route around Indonesia has always existed, it's just not as cost-efficient.

Without getting into India's capabilities to choke a sea lane as narrow as that from so close to ANC, with or without alliances, did I say anything about India wanting to choke any other country? Or for that matter, did I even mention any "country" to be targeted specifically at all?

But then pls excuse me, I don't like to engage in arguments with intellectually dishonest people! We both know how that is going to end for me, don't we Mr.Tank?

With egg all over your face? Then you are too late. :P

So what choke points are you talking about here?

Bearing the thread title and topic in mind?

Why do you accuse other people of intellectual dishonesty when you are doing it yourself? :azn:

I don't think Kra is a China's canal.

Beijing wants to build a 1,200 kilometer long canal across southern Thailand .
???
I read that's a 102 or 120 kilometers long canal only.

What you think is the least of our concern.

It is just one more option under China's belt. Besides, I do not see any sane country in the world threatening SLOC security. Even against another nation, such a move could not be considered bilateral given that those SLOCs in SCS is used by everybody, rich and poor.

Did you not read the article? The canal is supposed to reduce shipping cost and time. That is the main purpose

As for India blockading it, the Indian ocean is a huge region with multiple waterways so if you blockade the canal
China will just use other waterways, such as those from Indonesia, Australia etc.

You would have to blockade the strait of Hormuz directly to cause any major effects but you would
not be able to do so because you would then make enemies with the oil rich gulf.

What you think is the least of our concern.

Do you think China is going to go ahead with this project or is it just a distant dream?

China doing this for troll someone in ASEAN!

Divide and rule !!!

It is a dream of three centuries -- dreamed by many coiuntries. This demonstrates it is a major challenge and the rate of failure is quite big-%100, LOL.

There are many interests, including external ones, that do not want the project to proceed. China would like to go ahead with that but this is not even a tango, China has to dance with so many beauties, including the US and regional major trade hubs.

As far as I know, other than the MOU, few has been done so far. Maybe feasibility studies are undergoing.

So there are a lot 'powers' who get sleepless nights whenever this project is mentioned.;) Singapore should also be worried. One of its main economic pillars is the strait of Malacca.

I think China should go ahead with this as soon as possible because it is too strategic to ignore. Right now the government in Thailand is pro-china. This the best opportunity.

Very typical self projecting from people of certain part of sub-continent. Starting from the time I joined , I haven't seen any Chinese members using both Indian flags to trash Indian members on Indian forum like did by your country man on our Chinese forum. So who are these intellectually dishonest people?

Yes, but the problem is, a deal ratified by one government could be frozen or scrapped by another one. I think, if China is going to really get on this billion-dollar project, it needs to sign a binding agreement with exis clauses that would at least compensate the financial loss.

Also, to ensure elite interest, China needs to get as much of Thailnd power groups into the project as possible- this way, too much interests involved will keep the project alive.

It should not be only China that loses if the project is shelved.

China can have 200000.....submarines and India wont care to give a damn. China will be operating far from their mainland and India being a peninsular country can spread out assets far & wide either side of peninsula virtually neutralizing any numerical threat.

More ever India is not only the country monitoring china , there are host of other countries which will share info on movement of chinese naval assets. By the time chinese submarines reach Indian ocean it would already been detected by 5 to 6 countries in SCS.

Reminds me of russia who always wanted to get warm water port and tried all within its reach to get one. If China was so sure about its Naval prowess why would they go for CPEC? Never mind there is no point having discussion , bcos empty tanks make more noise:lol:.
