They were not free loaders Mr. ! They just showed up earlier than the day of the booking I would guess maybe 12 hours earlier and this happened due to Airline scheduling. (Lost in translation). I know it because I made a similar mistake 20 years ago while visiting Dubai from NY. I only arrived 12 hours earlier at midnight dubai time, and my booking was actually for next day, but like a good hotel they allowed me to stay in the lobby for the night and gave me the room 9am, 3 hours earlier than normal 12 noon check-in. This is called professionalism which the stupid Swedish hotel was totally lacking.

To allow for a family of 4 to loiter in the Lobby for 12 to 18 hours is just plain idiotic.

Were you just a single traveller or with your entire family when you stayed in that lobby ?

If they weren't such cheapskates they would have booked a room for that day in a different hotel. Rather than force themselves onto the lobby of that hotel. Pathetic.

It was a $40/night hostel. Doubt hostels encourage people sleeping in the lobby.

Hey I have reached hotels earlier than my reservation times by a few hours they always accommodated me..at least they let me place my luggage, take a shower and freshen up...and go to the city or some restaurant to eat something... Many hotels offer free bicycles in Germany, and in Dubai, they have shuttle services to the city centre..I stayed in hostels with friends in Spain and Italy but it was like a century ago (little exaggeration) but it was all positivie.

The hotel industry in Sweden is not known for its great services... rather even in large shopping centres, the customer service is not great.. I don't know why it is so. Other EU countries like Austria, Switzerland, UK, Spain, Italy, Turkey, France...offer better experience...Even in Denmark..I had some minor issues as they charged me a little more than what I expected..so I guess in Scandinavia the concept of customer service is not well understood..I personally think, it has to do with the social security and welfare system which makes the staff think..they don't have to be polite to keep their jobs

It’s a hostel not a hotel. They may not even have staff at the desk at certain times of the day.

The Chinese tourists should have left when asked and not played the victim card.

Facts are that they arrived 12 hours early and asked to stay in lobby of hostel. Hostel said no for whatever reason, as was their right, and they should have gone elsewhere rather than argue.

I think the joke on Swedish TV was a little insensitive though.
