China city bans Christmas in schools

.
China is no match for christianity. Christianity brought down evry simple empire that did stand against it. Ban it and it gains even more power. So far there are more christians in china than communist party members. Christmas is celebrated all over the country. Most people love it as fun and cool event. So this nonsense is laughable.

Christianity is dead.

Christianity is dead.

Islam is dead.

Yes actually! Before the scum arrived verything was ok.

lol

It is you who claimed that Christianity is an imperial force meant to destroy empires. It is bound to put conquistadors in center of attention.

Could you find any factual inaccuracy in my assertions?

Could you find a single instance of Christianity destroying an militaristic capable empire, except Roman empire (which it destroyed from within)?

Instances you were lionizing as destruction of Empires by Christianity were wholesale, one sided slaughter of defenceless aborigines by conquistadors. Are you denying that any such thing happened?

Christianity thriefs in China and even more so in South Korea. If you try to ban a religion you fail. There is nothing China can do against this. China tried hard to ban the catholic church and installed its own version of catholic faith and failed utterly.People start underground churches.

.
...Does it kill anyone to just go to baidu or taobao to see the sheer amount of Christmas related stuff in China? The "ban" is actually just saying that Christmas is not an official holiday in China and kids shouldn't use that as an excuse to avoid school.

.
Ban it all! I am really surprised how some Chinese celebrate Christmas more fervently than I have ever experienced in the U.S. for over 10 years. Even New York is no match for some crazy Chinese youth in cities loitering and throwing garbage everywhere. Some Chinese have some wrong idea that westerners don't celebrate Christmas with families, instead all just partying on streets, lol

.
we are living in a 21st century, yet again we still have millions and millions halfw1t brainwashed westerners who know nothing about whats going on on the other side of the planet````

this news dont even make the slightest spectrum of common sense, Christmas was never a national or religious holiday in China and wont to be one in any near future, so there is no 'ban' to even begin with...

And the Pope is reaching out to China in an attempt to reconcile China's Patriotic Church with the mainstream Catholic Church. Notice how the pope very recently refused to meet the Dalai Lama? I've nothing against Christianity and people should be free to practice what they believe but you need to check your reading comprehension skills.

This "ban on Christmas" is anything but. China is merely keeping *all* religion out of schools. If you don't like it, tough shit. :pop:

Religious event should be ban in school. Otherwise if someone complaint and you have argument going this way or that way. Best way, banned them altogether and students can study in peace as they should be.
But what about teaching kids their own culture and learning other cultures? Fostering ignorance is only a step away from fostering baseless hatreds. For that reason I don't think an outright ban is the way to go. Nor an all-out celebration that might make some kids and parents excessively uncomfortable. Some sort of balance needs to be struck, I think.

.
guys the "chiristianity" of today has veered from its original path, belief & teaching.
the so-called christianity has caused so much misunderstanding, ill feelings & false illusion to many people.

it is giving a bad name to "christinaity"

Stop insulting christianity. I don´t insult your islam. So you should also not insult my religion.

.
Folks stay on topic.

This isn't a debate about Christianity, and some of the posts are bordering on the offensive.

.
This isn't about xristian at all. Virtually nobody, except believers, know Xmas has a religious significance. It is just about some people feel unnerved at the commercialization of an alien festival.

That isn't new. Many a literature gem in Tang dynasty China originated from "Hu" (mid-asian) celebrations.

China is inviting trouble again and again and they are becoming really arrogant and this would lead to there downfall. I hope they move back on these issues other wise future doesn't look good for them.

You are of course right that children should broaden their knowledge of their own and others cultures. Banning religious activity in school does not prevent them from learning these or any other knowledge in school if it is in the curriculum.

Are you sure? I recall having to explain to Chinese students what Christmas and Thanksgiving were. It would be as if I had enrolled in a Chinese school and knew nothing about Confucius or jìngzǔ.

Sure about what?
Why would Chinese students need to know much about Christmas?
And Thanksgiving??????????? That is purely American, right?
Surely you don't expect Chinese curriculum to consider these 2 as priority.
Are these ethnic Chinese students that enroll in US school? I am confused by your example.
Going by your example, I do not think Chinese would expect an American that enroll in Chinese school to know about Confucius. Do US school teach Confucianism???

And what is that got to do with religious activity in school?
Surely you do not expect Chinese school to have Thanksgiving cerebration, that would cause quite a controversy. Student can learn about Thanksgiving in American history class or they can learn about it by themselves outside school.

This is what happen when US embassy in China try to promote Thanksgiving in 2012.

If you can read Chinese, you can see that there are quite a number of Chinese people that are sympathetic to the fate of Native Americans and don't think much about Thanksgiving.
