Are they really doing this?
Years ago I got an offer from the Taiwanese and later a strong hint that a mainland university would match it. It had to be my Judaism that caught them, not the fact I'd be teaching English. (I don't know any Chinese, either.)

And I thought Judaism doesn't take converts. Is that incorrect ?
We're not out proselytizing for converts nowadays. If folk come to us and persist, find a rabbi and sponsor, and work at it...but it's a lengthy process. Millions of mainland Chinese adopt Christianity every year, that's easier and quicker, perhaps that has something to do with the interest in Judaism?

Yes. No, I didn't know that any of the Kaifeng community emigrated to Israel.

I am curious, however. Us religious Jews get treated like royalty when we visit. Why does China want Jews to return or convert Chinese citizens to Judaism?

One of China famous Movie star, Lau Hua, just converted to Judaism a few weeks ago and married A Jewish girl. I guess there are many Jewish people, probably from the US, scatter across big cities in China.

.
...average Chinese cannot tell Jewish people from other whites unless he is Albert Einstein.
And I thought "Don't all us Westerners look alike?" was my private joke with Chinese students!

Such things do exist in some small companies in China , they want to pretend to have a strong technical and financial strength,
so hiring an European or American face will make the company look more international and give them advantages in business。
The reason is that the west countries are still considered more advanced than China by most Chinese。
This notion can be good and bad,It urges the Chinese to learn from the west such as technologies and corporation management, and
work hard to catch up and surpass the west in almost every field, but at the same time it makes many Chinese feel lack of confidence
when comparing China and the other countries。

my observation is the East Asians usually have an unfavorable opinion of Jewish people.

mostly older generations are like that. there was a survey of "who looked better, 周杰伦 or a random American movie star?"

People above 35 voted the American.
People under 30 voted 周杰伦

I was surprised to see that only 9% of Japanese favor Israel. Most Chinese actually think highly of Jewish people of being the smartest group on this planet (Yeah a bit racism). As to the country of Israel, it is a mixed feeling. On one hand Chinese respect Israel as an advanced country. On the other hand, Chinese are sympathetic to Palestinians. So you get a 50% to 50% like/dislike from the survey picture onthe first page. The cold war strenghened the "dislike" since China was initially sided with Soviet Union and Yasser Arafat. For that reason, PRC didn't recogonize Israel as a country until 1990s. After the relationship gets normal, there're some major military coordinations. (China acquires quite a bit technology from Israel as everyone knows). There's no bad histroy between China and Israel so there's no unfavorable opinion.

Smart in business and making money, but not smart in getting along with the other nations.

compare stastistic poll from 2010 -2011-2012.

Negative attitudes have also increased among the Chinese, the Indians, and the Russians. In China, a 9-point drop in positive ratings (to 23%) makes the overall balance of views even more negative (23% positive vs 45% negative). In India, negative perceptions have gone up 11 points (to 29%), and overall opinion has shifted from being divided in 2011 (21% vs 18%) to leaning negative in 2012 (17% vs 29%). In Russia, public opinion has shifted from leaning positive in 2011 to being divided in 2012 (25% positive vs 26% negative).

I don't think we can acquire significant technology from them now that they're behind us in many ways like, just for example, naval engineering (in all aspects), aerodynamics and aircraft engines, which they simply don't have.

We aren't 50/50 split. Their image has been getting worse and worse in China for the past 3 years. Now it's 23% like 45% dislike, hardly 50/50 split, more like a 1:2 ratio of like to dislike.
