LOL!
Wow, two major lol's in one thread, who would've thought?
Since we're all so concerned about our American friend, do you think he should also be concerned about Pakistanis? Since, you know, the Dept. of Homeland Security thinks so...
US maintains extra airport checks for countries on watch list | World news | guardian.co.uk
"The other "countries of interest" are
Afghanistan, Algeria,
Iraq, Lebanon, Libya,
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and
Somalia,
and four countries the US regards as state sponsors of terrorism: Cuba, Iran, Sudan and Syria."
My, an elite club of countries indeed
Buddy, no one shares Pakistan's concerns (aside from China to a limited extent).
Our undergraduate friend here thinks we're (Indians/Chinese) stealing American jobs. From what I've seen (in grad school), an overwhelming majority of post-grad students in applied and basic sciences are foreign nationals, notably Chinese and Indian, as the article rightly mentions.
Ever wonder why that's the case, rollingstones?
You're right about American universities, there's a reason the states is the #1 destination for intl' students. However, you need to realize that more and more kids in the states aren't interested in pursuing degrees in science or mathematics.
Now is this something you need to be concerned about? Yes and no.
1. Yes, because something's obviously wrong if kids aren't motivated enough to take up serious degrees in college.
2. No, because one the primary reasons for America success is because of its ability to attract and absorb talent from around the world. A lot of effort has been put into building and promoting institutions/mechanisms to facilitate the same.
For example:
STEM Designated Degree Programs
Like I said, there's a reason they want to retain students in these fields.
