What's new

China beats US to re-emerge as India’s top trading partner, India's trade deficit with China widens to $1.26 billion in July

China imports less from India. China also does not invest much in india. It is double whammy for India. We should wean away from dependence on China for cheap imports that we can manufacture in India.
Indeed, china should not invest anything in india esp in infras, energy, power and high tech projects since india considers china a stategic enemy. China doesnt want to be the foolish peasant in the narrative.

No one can cut their independence on China in today's world, EU and US have tried to do it for years, both failed miserably.

That's because China is eliminating labor-intensive enterprises due to population problems, and Chinese enterprises have moved the factories producing ice cream spoons to Southeast Asia. So India now imports ice cream spoons from Vietnam.
No we don't import them ,govt made a list of items which which can be replaced with indian products immediately and which will need time to produce in India with the traders in India and its a work in progress.

Give it some time you will see what I mean.
They are being replaced by cars and airplanes
Yes,they too will be replaced eventually ,The Chinese ccp car maker which has presence in India has announced they are moving out of india already.

If we can destroy all the energy pipelines in Russia and Europe, and set the destination of all the Russian energy pipelines in China. Then our resource security problem will be completely solved. And no matter how the Russian government changes in the future, the new Russian government will inevitably be inseparable from us because of trade and economy. We really need to kiss Biden hard.

The Chinese have slaughtered Vietnam for thousands of years. Now Chinese
Thats mainly from the nationalistic vietnamese narrative that is mainly built around anti-china myth to justify the creation and existence of their nationhood. As in any country and region, there were indeed some wars between china and vietnam in history since vietnam was a chinese province for thousand year and a dependency for another thousand year.

Of course, the relation between india and china were basically peaceful for thousands of years until the recent 60 years ago a war broke out and indians cant get it off their minds ever since.

China's car exports still surge dramatically on monthly basis, we'll see whose loss it will be.

I feel the relationship between China and Vietnam is way better than we with India, at least Vietnam doesn't have India's lie laden venomous media and Vietnamese public are not that helplessly brainwashed and delusional.

I think you seriously underestimate the difficulty of producing these small commodities with commercial value. Note that I mean "with commercial value".

The commercial production of these small commodities can really test the capacity of a country's industrial system and economies of scale. What do you think is the best product to demonstrate the ability of China's industrial system?

I told you, this is it. The cheapest lighter:

China can produce this lighter at a cost of one cent. Only China can do this in the world. The second place is Japan. The lowest price they can achieve is 14 cents. So now all the lighters in the world come from China.

Do you know why this is the most important test of a country's industrial system? I suggest you think about the answer yourself.

India wants to make its own ice cream scoop, which is of course very simple. But it is difficult for India to make its own ice cream scoops with commercial value. Of course, you can protect your domestic ice cream spoon market with tariffs, but you can never leave the Indian market.

Not car exports to India, yes we import parts from China and that too will dry down as I say it's a list each year items in the list keeps reducing replaced by indian items.

I have extensive ties with import-export business, even made in China shoes or bags for export , are out of budget indians are comfortable with, the Chinese made branded goods are mainly for EU,JApan,Korea, north america;the bags and shoes that India imports are mainly from vietnam,Bangladesh and indonesia. There was a time exporters use to source products from China, but the factories scaled went up in production chain, higher pay and mass production of higher valued goods that need specialized industries.
When India imports shuff from china,it's mainly specialized goods exclusive to china's manufacturing capabilities(India can replace few of them at its own loss) or rudimentary goods from private local village industries ,these are unbranded stuff which are affordable for Indian mass budget.

We have similar issues with China but that won't make us captive to establishing a positive outcome. We cannot change our neighbours, so deal with it.

India pays and China makes. What exactly is the problem? Tomorrow if US or Japan or someone else makes it cheaper India will pay them instead of China.

I think this is the cultural difference between East Asia and South Asia. Although Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country, its culture belongs to the East Asian Confucian cultural circle.

East Asian countries usually do not confuse political and economic issues. For example, China and Japan have too many contradictions and hatred between the two countries, but China is still Japan's largest trading partner. If two countries have major natural disasters, the other country must be the first to provide assistance.

However, South Asian countries always like to tie political issues with economic issues, which is not just India's unique habit.

At least that is the case with india on chinas experience, they seem to hate china everything ever since lost a war in 1962 to china, but they are ok with the british no matter how much bad the white british did to them, slaughtering and enslaving them for hundreds of years.

But, i dont think the japanese offered any significant help when disasters strike china such as in the wenchuan earthquake even though japan is a wealthy country.
