How many operational J-20s right now, any idea? Very impressive how these things are being built at this incredible pace.

And what's your opinion on why they designed and built it without the need for a gun or cannon? Is there a specific doctrine or rules of engagement, so to speak as to the method of any type of combat that has been implemented so that there would never be the need to use guns? Or are they planning to eventually add one?

Perhaps they're procedure for any and all J-20 engagements would be strictly at BVR and never WVR. And if the latter is needed, then it would be the J-16's or J-10's duties?

There were 200 J-20 units being built by the end of 2022, so it should be around 300 operational J-20 by now.

Currently, China produces 100 J-20 units annually.

They are trying to reverse engineer it

China should start exporting those in big numbers to the friendly countries.

Maybe towards the end of 2020s, when China has equipped with 1000 operational J-20.

In the meantime, China will be very closely to the induction of the sixth gen fighter.

Considering that a lot of countries don't want J-35, and still waiting for J-20.

So China will start to export J-20 in 5 years later.

Calm down and none of your claims is based on facts:

- the PLAAF will IMO unlikely be able to field 1000 J-20s and such a huge force even more makes no sense at all

- which countries "don't want J-35, and still waiting for J-20"? Officially the J-20 is NOT FOR SALE and regardless which fan-community is waiting for, it is unrealistic, and exactly to the contrary, there is a lot of interest in the J-35!

The J-35 will reserve for the PLAN if the foreign nations don't want it.

BTW, I start to believe that the PLAAF will also stick with the J-20 only.

So obviously that the J-20 is heading toward the comparable number of the F-35.

So there are also the twin-seated variant of the J-20, so obviously that the PLAAF will equip with a huge number of J-20 in the foreseeable future.

J-20 is not going to have comparable numbers to F-35. We're almost a decade into the first production plane rolling off the assembly line and the number is still around 250. At this rate, I don't see more than 600 units give China's next generation fighter is already on the table.

It lacks the versatility of Flanker platform despite its air to air capabilities.
