'Don't take me yet,' pleads Chavez after radiation therapy

SATURDAY 07 APRIL 2012

The President, Hugo Chavez, has spoken emotionally about his struggle with cancer after returning from his latest round of radiation treatment in Cuba.

Mr Chavez, who has become more openly religious since the onset of his illness, shed tears while attending a Mass with his family on Thursday.

"Give me life even if it's ... painful life. I don't care," he said. "Christ, give me your crown. Give it to me, I will bleed ... Give me life because I still have things to do for these people. Don't take me yet."

The 57-year-old has vowed to overcome cancer and is running for re-election in October. During the Mass he sat holding hands with his mother and father while a priest led a prayer for his health. "I couldn't avoid several tears," he said.

Mr Chavez says he has been recovering well since surgery in February that removed a second tumour from his pelvic region. "So far, fortunately there hasn't been any adverse reaction to the treatment," he said. "All the examinations have shown positive results of physical recovery."

He has regularly travelled to Cuba for treatment since last June, when he said an initial surgery removed a tumour the size of a baseball. However, he has not identified the type of cancer nor the precise location where the tumours have been removed.

I hope he lives for sake of Cuban people....

This is liberation theology. It is a branch of Christianity practiced as Christ taught it. It was brutally suppressed by certain superpowers during the Cold War.

Hugo is not my favorite person, but I don't wish cancer on anyone - and wholeheartedly agree with his attitude: "Give me life even if it's ... painful life."

"Do not go gentle into that good night"...

We tend to forget death is the ultimate reality. I think we should prepare ourselves to accept death whenever it comes.

Your days are over, Chavez. Jesus can't save you. Science could, but it hasn't reached that stage yet. :)

Yeah, like we should believe that you are an expert in, or even know squat about, what "Christ taught". "Christ" NEVER taught "liberation theology". Liberation theology is entirely a man-made, Marxist spin on Latin American Catholicism.

Maybe he shoud pray to oxygen... Atleast oxygen has a effect on cancer unlike God which is most propably fictional :)

Chavez returning to Cuba for treatment

Published: April 7, 2012 at 1:37 PM

BARINAS, Venezuela, April 7 (UPI) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he's returning to Cuba for another round of treatment for cancer.

Chavez, 57, said he would fly to Cuba Saturday night, CNN reported.

He said he would meet with his cabinet before leaving Venezuela.

Doctors have operated on Chavez twice to remove cancerous tumors, he has said.

Chavez had been in Cuba since March 31 and received a second round of radiation treatment in the Caribbean nation.

He has not said what type of cancer he has.

Chavez returned to Venezuela early Thursday and said at the airport in his native state of Barinas in western Venezuela that his treatment had gone well.

"So far, there has been no adverse reaction to the treatment; the body has assimilated it well," Chavez said.

At a Holy Thursday Mass in Barinas, Chavez prayed: "Give me your crown, Christ, give it to me. Let me bleed. Give me your cross, 100 crosses, so I can carry them. But give me life, because I still have things to do for the people and this country. Do not take me yet. Give me your cross, give me your thorns, give me your blood. I am prepared to carry it. But with life, Christ. Amen."
