What's new

Chattogram witnessing topmost development.

loosing around tons in destiny and share market and paying Chattra league now and then for "looking after our house" later, i am really happy with these fancy building and sh*t that i won't be using more then 3-4 times a year.

I have seen well off families suffer and can't even ask for help for their family status.
I prefer an extra menu in my dinner then these "topmost development".

Please do not make @UKBengali and @Bilal9 unhappy with your inputs. The only people getting benefits are of BAL Chetona group.

i think they want the whole BD to be a giant garments factory and all of us to be minimum waged worker(considering the living cost) forever. while they are roaming around our cities with tax free cars and 70000 tk phone.

The only other thing that Chattogram really needs is a metro system.
You mean Chittagong is a very beautiful city with children's park here and there, nice footpaths, almost no traffic jam, no water logging and so many other things. Do I look a real negative-minded one if I say BD has to work for a few hundred years to beautify the cities only after which BD can claim to be a civilized country? Am I wrong? So, please help BD to solve many issues.

Few hundred years?
You really are a comical character!

The metro is the next step in the process.
You obviously do not read articles as 5500 cores are being spent to alleviate Chattogram's water logging. Yes it may take a little longer than the government says, but it will get done.
In case you missed it, a part of Chattogram is really clean with no garbage and nice footpaths. This needs to be spread to rest of city.
BD government is also spending much needed money to build more sewarage systems and clean drinking water.
Rather than typing for the sake of it, I suggest you read and learn a little more about BD as you lack basic knowledge.

This is a 3rd world country for god's sake. This is not even Thailand. Yet Dhaka manages its trash eloquently. I don't see trash laying around in the corner of the street for days which were a regular scene even in early 2000's. You have to give credit to the good work so that people get encouraged.
Another great thing about mosquito. I really dont need curtain anymore in Dhaka other than occasional Aerosol. Could you imaging this even a decade ago?

Does it really though? I find it hard to believe.

I'd agree with this to a certain extent.

Most of the money will go to the pockets of political leaders and govt officials. They'll stop working and demand more funds. When more fund is allocated they will pocket 80% of it and after someday they'll ask for funds again.

Things are not like that in govt work. Most of the money get wasted due to incompetency than dishonesty. Every contractor has to pay 3-5% of the actual project cost as office expense which is distribute according to the ranks, which is alright

Dhaka is clearly more clean than say 5 years ago. Roadside old, mega dustbin with overflowing garbage are now mostly gone.City corporation has taken initiative to collect garbage door to door. They also set up 15,000 small trashcan throughout the city.

Another thing is, now much emphasize are given to build and expand the footpath where ever is possible. I see a lot of footpath are being built now in roads previously which was just a road with unpaved, muddy sidewalk, during monsoon that was horrible to walk. But many narrow 'Gulli' road condition is not yet improved.Major factor being lack of space. Some 'gulli' roads are now being build on concrete to lengthen it's longevity which was not the case earlier. For some cases, construction companies which build such narrow road, being held liable to ensure that no pothole emerges within 1 year before payment. So better quality of works.

Currently Abdullahpur-Chourasta(Gazipur) road perhaps the most horrible within greater Dhaka. No improvement or repair done to this road for few years as it is left for BRT project which got delayed for several years.

Things are actually worse. Corruption and inefficiency are both there. I can't say which one is more acute. Every damn project takes twice to thrice in both time and cost of initial estimates to complete. And I am supposed to believe there is no corruption?

Dhaka might be cleaner than it was 5 years ago I'm not aware of recent developments....but I doubt it's trash management system can be called "eloquent".

This Japan-flagger guy's posts are as usual,

a) Of no value
b) Meant to troll-bait and ultimately derail the thread

I am glad you have caught on to his crafty game.

I still remain unconvinced that he is Bangladeshi because he could not answer my Bangla questions directly. Despite his flag.

I only stopped because you guys (and the Mods) asked me to.

Sorry about the OT post.

Of course it can not be called that ''eloquent''. After all Bangladesh is a poor country. You have to put Bangladesh in it's own context.

The corruption you may be speaking of is endemic to Asia in general and the subcontinent in particular. So how is it different?? Please talk on point and on topic. We are discussing developmental and infrastructural topic here, not corruption.

Upgrading Trash management is a difficult and time-consuming process because of the massive amount of centralization of urbanization and demand on housing in Dhaka and other major cities, which is not super high on the list of priorities right now. On top of which, Dhaka has become an industrial city, which was not the intent for a capital city. I am pretty sure when they finally decide to tackle it, they will tackle it far better than the large neighbor country. Just like they have tackled open defecation and gender disparity in education.

This subcontinental habit of complaining without constructive suggestions has to stop.

Better to offer suggestions rather than just complain.

A really excellent post!

Some BD posters just seem to want to complain for the sake of it without taking context into account.
Yes, there is corruption in BD but please tell me one other country at BD's level of development that is not as corrupt.

For the first time in the last 30 years we are actually seeing some real and fast infrastructure development that BD needs. This does not mean that governments in the past were not as good or even better than the present one as they simply lacked the resources that BD has now.

Both Dhaka and Chattogram now have both a plan and infrastructure that is currently being built in a sensible way.
As well as the infrastructure development of the two largest cities, we are also seeing the construction of 4 lane roads, building of power stations and bridges in the rest of the country.
Already the government is talking about the next projects like a 2nd nuclear power station and another bridge over the Padma Bridge. This is a sign of long-term planning that BD badly needs.

Look I am no AL fan-boy but for BD they are the least worst option right now. It would be a disaster for BD if they were not to win the election next year and I think they will win easily since they are delivering on the economic and infrastructure fronts.
