Cessna Aircraft Co., Wichita, Kansas, has been awarded a $14,095,939 firm-fixed-price contract for two Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX aircraft, four Cessna T-206H Stationair aircraft, sustainment support and associated training. Contractor will provide two new Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX aircraft modified for aeromedical evacuation, and four new Cessna T-206H Stationair aircraft modified for aeromedical evacuation. A 24-month sustainment package consisting of spares, tooling, and support equipment will be provided for each aircraft. Pilot and maintainer training will also be provided for the Pakistan Army personnel. Work will be performed at Wichita, Kansas, and is expected to be complete by Dec. 30, 2016. This award is the result of a sole-source acquisition. This contract is 100 percent foreign military sales to Pakistan. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity (FA8625-16-C-6482).

Cessna lands a $14mn FMS from Pakistan for six aeromedical evacuation aircraft

The US-based aircraft manufacturer Cessna Aircraft has been awarded a $14,095,939 contract to provide two Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX aircraft, four Cessna T-206H Stationair aircraft, sustainment support and associated training to Pakistan, the US Department of Defense announced on Wednesday April 20, 2016.

According to the US DoD, Cessna will provide two new Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX aircraft modified for aeromedical evacuation, and four new Cessna T-206H Stationair aircraft modified for aeromedical evacuation.

A 24-month sustainment package consisting of spares, tooling, and support equipment will be provided for each aircraft, as well as pilot and maintainer training for the Pakistan Army personnel.

"Work will be performed at Wichita, Kansas, and is expected to be complete by Dec. 30, 2016. This contract is 100 percent foreign military sales to Pakistan," the US DoD said.

The 208B Grand Caravan EX is an upgraded version of the well-known Caravan single-engined turboprop utility aircraft. The variant was certified in December 2012, powered by a 867 hp (647 kW) Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-140 that improves climb by 38%.

The Cessna T206H model is generally similar to the previous U206 configuration, with a pilot entry door and a rear double clamshell door for access to the middle and back seats. The "H" is marketed under the name "Stationair". The turbocharged T206H is powered by a Lycoming TSIO-540-AJ1A engine of 310 hp (230 kW).

Plus, In their current configuration they can land on dirt roads,rough runways, or even public roads (without any damage to either), and do not necessarily need proper reinforced runways.

Given Pakistan's topography these fixed wing medevacs should prove very useful.

The Grand Caravan EX has a main cabin that fits up to 14 people in a standard configuration; a useful load of 1,593 kg; a maximum cruise speed of 185 kt; and a range of 912 n miles.

The T206H Stationair is much smaller than the Grand Caravan EX, fitting 6 people in a standard configuration; a useful load of 581 kg; a maximum cruise speed of 164 kt; and a range of 703 n miles.

They are already in service with PAA not sure about 206 but 208 are in service for quite some time now.

Son----helicopter does not have a 1000 miles flight range. Also helicopters are expensive to maintain as compared to a cessna.

The price tag of 14 million is too high----. The grand caravan EX are 2.5 mil a piece---which is 5 million----the other 4 a 500 thousand a piece---which puts it a 2 million---modifications at 2 million dollars for all six aircraft----.

That puts it a 9 million dollars---flight training for the pilot should be free and maintenance a minimal 100k for technician---.

The aircraft may have a 1-3 years warranty as well----.

Looks like there is a close to 4 million dollars +- kick back involved in this deal.
