Yesterday, I posted a new thread regarding China clamping down on religious freedoms of Muslims, going so far as to forcing them to sell alcohol in their shops. The thread was having lively discussion and then suddenly the thread was deleted without warning or any reason given to ME, the author of the thread. So I would like to know how bad is the censorship here? How frequently do Mods and Admin delete threads arbitrarily and based on their own prejudices?

Is it an official policy of this forum to not criticize China?

So you're saying China does not repress its Muslim population in Xinjiang? or that Washington Post is less credible than people posting clippings of Jang Urdu newspaper or Express Urdu newspaper in various threads all day long?

Instead of letting us debate the message in the Washington Post article, a very valid issue of Chinese state suppression of religion and repression of Muslims, you chose instead to shoot the messenger. Questions of credibility in my experience are a weak attempt to silence criticism of something one doesn't like.

Do you have a link to the thread. Washington Post shouldn't be considered less credible.

You should first ask questions about youtube. :P

I believe defence.pk would be on last in alexa ranking in Pakistan.

WP reported the report reported by RFA (Radio Free Asia).

I have searched China and far east section as well as China defence section but couldn't locate the deleted thread started by OP.

I started the thread with that report from Washington Post under "Strategic and Foreign Affairs" since China is Pakistan's strategic partner. The discussion was lively, although some Chinese members of this forum tried to derail it by bring up India and Hindu/Muslim issues to bait Indian members of this forum. I asked them both to refrain from such discussion and stick to the issue at hand of religious freedoms in China; then I woke up in the morning to find the entire thread had been deleted.

@Taygibay provided the link to the article above. However I can't give the link to the thread since its been removed and I closed the browser window afterwards.

I dont know wheher Radio free asia report is corrcet or not. But what a huge huge shame that a newspaper like Washington Post went so tabloid rags way that instead of reporting the incident through its own journalists which would add credibility to the reporting , it quoted a radio broadcast and produced a whole long write up based alone on that.

Easy to say 'oh Radio Free Asia report isn't credible' but once you realize how difficult it is for a journalist from any of the big media organizations in the West to get any real information out of China, then you will come to be a little bit more humble. Kudos to those Muslims who somehow managed to get information out to Radio Free Asia people without being arrested by the authorities. You should know that in China, everything and everyone is monitored, especially the flow of information that flows online or on the airwaves.

We faced similar problems regarding Uyghur Issue but in Central-Asia and Chinese section.

We have thread in Turkish section..The Uyghur issue | Page 46

Our section is being extremely well moderated, there will be no trollings at all. Feel free to post.

How is RfA not credible when Chinese do not let other media groups report at all. In fact the fact that they do not gives credence to the fact that they probably are enacting suchpolicies.

Dude you sure fail to get the point.

This isnt how credible journalism works ,not how media giants build their reputation .

I wont say what RFA said was wrong or right, but washington post reporting it like this is pretty much akin, to pak mohalla gossip aunts, yahan say suna agay suna diya.

Its more like tomorrow even some comments made by a random Raziya aunty shared as an annecdote with WP staff would get published as a complete newspiece.
Anyways, idont know abt the authenticity of news but wp was disappointing and in addition to this dont know i was getting the feeling the newspaper is adding spice to it.

Quite a massive improvement that this newspaper is aching for 'muslims' , tho these newspapers under their state order had remained silent on Salalah attack on our armymen. .

Pakistan is more free than China when it comes to media freedoms. Washington Post is not some evening Urdu newspaper. Their editorial board would have debated at length before running with the story. Again, you are doing what we say in Urdu, 'baat ki khaal nikaalna'. The ONLY point that matters here is that there is nothing called 'media freedoms' in China. Whatever source can sneak out whatever information risking their life is pretty much gold.

And the point of this thread was to reinstate my deleted thread. But the Mods and the WebMaster have seem to gone to sleep after a little bit of lip-service by making couple of posts here in this censorship thread showing 'concern'.

I wasn't born yesterday. Defence.pk is stifling open discussion on topics it finds hard to swallow.

Did you read the washingtonpost link, it is a blog post by Simon denyer.

worldviews section is blogs section. It stated the guy is The washington posts bureau chief in china...then why is he using RFA as a source??

This is a list of some his blogs.
Too much anti china sentiment
