I was under the impression that the LRTR was an upgrade of the Greenpine. Isnt it the same as the SwordFish Radar? if so, I believe its a land based system.

Yes, LRTR and Swordfish is the same radar. But as I said its naval version of LRTR or may be LRTR-2.

Do you have any more info on this system? If its better than the MF-Star it should definitely be included in the 15B

I think that huge radar onboard IAC-1 is naval version of LRTR. From the the image below you can see that IAC has 4 panel AESA similar to MF-STAR as well as naval LRTR (most probably).

However i dont think that the destroyers will weigh around 9000 tons coz then they would be called cruisers not destroyers

It depends mate! Japanese Kongo class has full displacement of 9500 ton but still called as destroyer. Our Shivalik class has full load of 5300-5600 ton still called as frigate. I think a ship with displacement more than 10000 ton should be called as cruiser. Naam pe keya jata hein!

Many guys are bitching about the price per ship but they forget that these ships will be more advanced , carry greater fire power and be more stealthy apart from being delivered in 2018 , so we also have to take into account the inflation in price as compared to P 15A Kolkata class which will be delivered in 2012

Yes..Most probably that is Naval LRTR..IAC seriously needs such powerful radar considering the fact that no AWAC will be flying off them..Sometimes i think IAC-I is just like Arihanth..a ship being built to show that we can build ship like this..

Yes IAC-1 will be ultimate showcase of India's technological capabilities. It is more powerful, complex than Arihant and much more useful during war and peacetime. Naval LRTR and other AESA radars as well as SAM and self defence suites give IAC-1 formidable sensor suite. I think they kept Chinese anti-ship ballistic missile in mind.

Rite buddy! P-17A and P-15B are coming and the number is also good. Until than P-15A, P-17 and Talwar class have to do this job. IN is becoming as a formidable force.

You are rite mate. These P-15B will be larger than P-15A and much more advanced. They will carry Nirbhay, hypersonic Brahmos, naval version of AAD and may be even Shaurya. Shaurya is compact enough to be carried on large ships. All composite body like next P-28 corvettes. There is also required for new infrastructure to build such large stealth ships. Only in that way $ 7.5 billion for 4 ships can be calculated! Current P-15A costing around $ 845 million per ship.

Yes thats a correct assessment,this is not all costly,their is high possibility that it also houses BMD though i am not sure on Shaurya

I think Shaurya is a very much possibility. Its canister is slightly larger than Brahmos but it can be a formidable weapon for navy.

It will be good if Indian Navy get some BMD capability on new destroyers or Frigates. Not sure if they go for Aegis kind of BMD for these new warships. But we should prefer indigenous or jointly produced missiles like Barak or Brahmos.

Regarding Shourya, i think its a weapon for surface to surface or ground attack not for naval use.

Anyway Currently Indian Navy looks a great power in all the aspects except subs. Which should be filled soon by Scorpean and next generation of diesel electric subs in next 10 yrs.

Thats really arguable mate, As building a nuclear sub , ministurizing a nuclear reactor and put it in a submarine's small space, brings its very own challenges for the country which never built even its own diesel electric sub. Building a boomer is more complex task than building SSN. No doubt its very difficult and challenging task, thats the reason only few countires in world have capability to make boomer.

On other hand building a warship which displace more than 45,000 tons of water and installing state of the art components , fire power is a very very difficult task. As this ship will be used for launching and landing the fighters.

We should not compare these two both are very complex task in their own areas. Its like comparing which is more difficult task to fight a Tiger or a Crocodile with bare hands.

But i feel very proud that my own country is doing both the jobs very well.

Yeah this is arguable but still building such an advanced and complex carrier with in 7 years is a great achievement.
