oh yeah it reminds me about Shikanjwi (made of Lemon, Sugar and water) that I once drank a glass orctwo and it did help me sleep on that night... but its not a permanent solution I guess

Hello

I know there are quite a few doctors and possibly psychiatrists around here so thought why not create a thread to seek professional advice

Since last 1 year I have been having nightmares almost every night and often 1-4 times per night... The sleep has been so disturbed and I literally am so fed up that I really want to find a solution to this problem

The problem begin after the death of my father almost 1 year ago but I strongly believe it is not due to that as I am usually not thinking about him and even if I am in very good mood, I would often wake up each night because of the nightmare and then try to sleep again (usually sleep quickly within 2-5 minutes) and then ready to watch next episode of nightmares

Its like I have seen hundreds of nightmare since past 1 year if not thousands

What to do really?

I once did go to the doctor but she didn't take it that seriously... didn't feel like going again as I am seriously thinking to change my GP since past many years

Try yoga

Oh My God! Oh My God! Oh my God!

I was just telling that I never had an car accident and have seen 40 or so dreams about having an accident... how many minutes ago?
5-10 minutes

An English lady just bumped my car 30 seconds ago while reversing

My car was parked and in her attempt for parralel parking she has hit my car

But I have let her go after realising her fear and not much damage to my car

Indigestion also causes nightmares. Try not sleep immediately after a heavy meal.
i usually have my last meal around 7-8pm in this weather and sleeps around 11pm to 2am depending on the day and mood

When do you wake up? Sleep deprivation is a major cause of nightmares. Stress too, and even If you don't feel stressed that doesn't mean you aren't. Your body will react to stress even if you feel fine or content.

Try some relaxation exercises before going to bed. Stretching, deep breathing, muscle relaxing (clench and hold each muscle for three seconds before releasing, you'll feel yourself "sink" into your bed if laying down as your muscles relax).

Yoga's not a bad option since it combines stretching with relaxation.

High sugar foods can also be a contributor to nightmares, so if you're eating sweet things before bed, stop.

....

Techniques learned and recommended from professional (military medic trained and certified to respond to trauma, shock and extreme stress - and still am.) and personal (uh, pregnancy anyone?) experience.

It's definitely not a permanent solution. While sugar will cause you to crash if consumed in large enough quantities, it does not help with one getting a good night's sleep.

Once in a while it might help if you're feeling stressed and having a hard time sleeping, but once you've fallen asleep its a risk to cause nightmares.

Nightmares are also also closely related to your health condition
stuff that contributes to nightmare

1- Eating tremendously late and greesy food i.e Oily rich in cholestrol like chicken brest or red meat obviously stuff made with Tones of oil
2- Blood pressure rises abnormally due to salty food at night nightmares are a way for body to send signals to you
you need to change your diet or check blood pressure , do you excercise enough
3- Normally after a major life changing event people do experience a natural rise in tension

Food digestion problem in stress , mean that your body does not processes heavy food as they used to prior to life changing events. Switching to more natural diet does aids people to avoid problems related to disgestion which also tend to indirectly cause sleeping problems (worried sleep or headaches in night)

Unfortunately our all dishes are super tasty and oily , and takes great amount of dicipline to manage this aspect , you might even have to experiment not eating Tandoori roti and switch to whole wheat based diet for few weeks to see if you are intolorent of normal white flour (used commonly in Pakistan)

In a given 7 day cycle do daily

1- Stop oil food intake
2- Eat clean vegetables , plus boiled chicken or may be simple fruits 1-2
3- If you have to eat roti eat whole wheat
4- Make rule to walk 30 minutes daily no matter what either in morning or after sunset 60 minutes
is ideal for bike ride or walking.
5- Cut off chemical sugar drinks (Pepsi , Cola , Stuff commonly used in Pakistan Rooh Afzah etc)

Normally Acidity is one aspect that develops in people with great amount of stress , so what folks do is they start depending on acidity reducing medicine "ENO" or other remedies

This is similar to a case where you have "Room" on fire and you throw a bucket of water 1 time quickly into the room it temporarily solves the issue but not the real problem

However , over long period of usage , these remedies help raise blood pressure as such remedies increase salt levels in your body

Chemical Explaination
Baking Soda (also known as sodium bicarbonate) used in anti acidity meds

As it mixes with the hydrochloric acid in the stomach, baking soda triggers a chemical reaction the products of which are salt (NaCl, or sodium chloride), carbon dioxide (CO2), and water. The water is harmless, and the carbon dioxide is released as a gas, producing a familiar burp once the acid is neutralized

Too much of this extra salt which start to accumulate with daily intake of "anti acidity meds" contributes also to your rasing blood pressure which most people don't consider.

They say a healthy person never have to depend on these off the counter meds for more then 1 or 2 days in 365 day cycle

Well I wake up between 7am to 8am as I have to leave for work before 9AM

The routine have been same for years so I doubt its got anything to do with my sleeping pattern

I will follow your advice of stretching and relaxation exercises before going to sleep and see if it helps

Thank you

Though I do have to confess that I love anythig that is sweet and even have a chocolate or two almist each day but I guess I don't eat too much sugar after evening. I will reduce my habit of eating sweets abd see if it helps

Thanks

You say don't eat salt

Technigaianist says don't eat sugar

Why don't you just say that I should eat nothing

Kidding mate, I do understand your point and trust me one of my 3 meals of the day consists of salad only... breakfast is usually just a cup of tea (cornflakes if summer) and some Asian food with mimimun oil mostly during lunch

. . .
WebMD... where no matter what illness or disorder you have, it's always cancer:lol:.

WebMD is ok for a rough outline, but it's generally pretty terrible.
Yes I know..
The best solution is going to a sleep doctor and getting tested in a sleep lab.

Brother - My father also died, 1 years back. For these one year i am also passing this type of condition. I can't sleep well. Even i see long length dream for 1 hour then if i sleep the dream continue. This is happening for one reason and that is for my father;s death. Bcz i saw his death infront of my eyes in hospital where many things happened about my fathers death.

This is actually physiological problem. For a short time basis. This is call panic attack. For recovering from this problem, you need to go outside, Refreshment, Gossip with friends. Don't be alone or think about your father s death.

Just forget what happened. When you will be busy with your work your brain cells will work with that . Pray to Allah (SWT). You can consult with psychiatrists but they will give you medicine , what is harmful for your body.

You can recover urself insha"Allah . Just before sleep try to pary two rakat nafal prayer and some ayat of Quran.
