Exactly... Thats the way to go.. Meritocracy has to kick in someday.

Reservations which were supposed to provide representation to the people who were historically prosecuted has become a political tool now. It has become employment scheme and the biggest abusers are the political class of these castes. You will be amused ( or, rather disgusted ) by the manner these "lower caste " politicians treat their fellow "caste members" in the confines of their home..

And the way things are unfolding..Pretty soon "Upper Caste" people will also have reservations...

I have lived among tribals, it will take quite a few generations to bring them to speed.
SC will take less, but not all of them are able to avail the opportunity.

Besides, after opening up of our economy, most job creation happens in private sector. And the first to take benefit obviously are upper caste people. Nobody is really crying for loss of govt jobs, so reservations is no longer an issue.
Interestingly though, I have seen caste bias in private enterprises. Shoking may be for some, but absolutely true.

The best of private education happens in private sector and here again, upper class got their advantage.

So there are certain perpetuation of class system which is why govt should invest more in better govt schools and special ones for tribals/backward classes.

Of course it is... It will remain important for sometime to come. But that does not mean the society is not changing. Younger generation is flexible about inter caste marriage.

true things are changing but not as fast as they should.

Whatever you said is true. I am not advocating reservations for "upper caste". But Politics is a nasty thing. And Upper caste people are also evolving as votebank. Thats why you see people like Nitish Kumar and Mayawati talking about reservations to upper caste..
