LAHORE / KARACHI: In collaboration with a Chinese commercial vehicle brand, Jinbei Pakistan has announced plans to import vans and minivans initially and start production in next two to three years, including passenger cars and mini-trucks.

Jinbei is a commercial vehicle brand of China owned by Brilliance Auto Group, the exclusive joint-venture partner and manufacturer of BMW in China.

“We are starting with completely built units (CBUs) and simultaneously have started documentation process for our production facility in Karachi. Hopefully, in the next two to three years, we will start working on completely knocked down (CKD) units,” said Jinbei Pakistan Managing Director Usman Shami while speaking to The Express Tribune.

He said Jinbei Pakistan would be selling around 300 to 500 vehicles in the first year. “It is feasible to import these vehicles for the time being.”

The company will initially import 11-seater X30, which has a tentative price of Rs1.66 million. The vehicle is similar to Suzuki’s APV.

A slightly larger model of this, X30L, will cost Rs1.71 million. The price tag for vehicles with 14 to 16-seat capacity becomes steeper as the cost of H-1 and H-2 Hiace will be Rs2.58 million and Rs3.55 million respectively.

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is having an impact on the Industrial sector and the automobile industry is no exception. Healthy relations between Pakistan and China means Chinese auto manufacturers can easily enter the market gaining maximum benefits from the government and cars with a low price tag means the potential to attract buyers easily. Zotye and Great Wall are two Chinese automakers which are following the above strategy to enter the Pakistani market.

Zotye:

While established back in 2005 Zotye is a private car manufacturer in China with a strong history of reliable cars and expanding the lineup. Although Zotye is operational in Pakistan under HRL Motors it was until recently when HRL Motors announced their plans to bring different Zotye models here. Current social media teaser points to the possible release of the Zotye Z100 somewhere in this month. When inquired about an update, the HRL Motors responded “A number of models are in the pipeline and we will be introducing 1300, 1600 and SUV and luxury range as well. Please stay connected to our page for updates. Thank you.”

Do they pay us by PPP?
I actually debated with a delusional indian guy the other day; He keep talking about PPP and low price in india and give me this B.S. website: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Beijing

The truth is our indigenous brand cars cost 1/3 this amount. Even if up to EU safety (i.e. 6 airbags + ESP), the price is only half this amount...

Why should we buy Levis or Nike or whatsoever? We have hundred of domestic brands which costs 1/6 this amount!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In addition, talking about car price, I think for the large sized cars/trucks, price in America is the cheapest; Cars in Korea is quite cheap too, but still more expensive than China (for similar size and configurations); cars in india is not cheap at all (their little midget beggar's "cars" can not even be considered as cars), its ppp is a big big joke.

Random car scene in a country-level city, Yiwu:
Luxury cars are not a thing!

It will, eventually. But, I think, China market can accommodate 5-6 major automakers. Even Japan has three major brands and the rest is not small either.

What is more important is to ensure brand identification. Each brand needs to represent something. Needs to have some strength. Perhaps one or two brands could be like an all-encompassing Toyota, but China also need strong brands with identity such as Mazda, Subaru and Mitsubishi.

Also, brands need their specific luxury lines, like Acura and Infiniti.

China market is big enough and getting stronger on terms of purchasing power. If China Inc. misses on it, it will be difficult to capture what the lost market share.
All the Chinese car companies build similar boring cars that people would buy if they are short of cash. Rich people in China buy foreign brand names. Chinese people love foreign products from dishes to cars.

Not really. The only big industrial consuming product what the foreign brands still have advantage, is cars. Almost all other industrial products of foreign brands are losing market share in China. Our brands now dominate mobile phones, TV, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, etc. Even in car market, the Chinese brands also occupy about 42-45%, and the credit of Chinese cars is growing. Now, most of Chinese think: Germany cars> Japanese cars= USA cars >Chinese cars= Korean cars, the France and Italy brands are gradually vanishing in Chinese market. Rich people buy Germany cars (ABB), others buy Japanese, USA , China, Korean cars.

Cars will follow the same trend as electronics, phones etc. as they are no longer a big deal and a symbol of status.

The trend is obvious now. This year, Geely will sell at least 1.5 million cars, it may rank 3rd of all auto companies in Chinese market, and Chinese brands may occupy 3-4 positions of the top ten car companies. Compared with 5 or 10 years ago, the progress is very big. The important change is : a few middle class bought Chinese brands mainly due to the nationalism 5 or 10 years ago, and most of middle class thought there was no face when buying home-made cars. To date, many many middle class decide to buy Chinese brands cars because of the car quality, not the nationalism, and it is no longer considered to lose face when driving home-made cars . There is bright future for home brands today. We will see one or two big car company grow and sell 5 million cars in 5-10 years.

There are lots of exciting China brands in auto sector. You need to look a bit deeply. In fact, the most expensive supercar (EV) in China's market is now a domestic company, Byton.

If this is not exciting (and expensive), I do not know what else.

We find it strange going to China and people believing American cars are considered to be luxurious and high class. This is not the case for north americans

It is a supercar but besides track tested its not tested on the road yet as a daily driver. This is the exception and not the rule. You find that other foreign companies all have a high powered flag ship car in its lineup. China still have ways to go with non electric cars.

First time to hear that USA cars are luxurious. I donot know anyone to say that.Maybe you are From USA, they said It just because of politeness. The only USA car company In the top ten is GM, and now GM is trapped into quality problem and losing market share. As I said, Chinese only recognize BBA as luxurious cars .

The fact that GM cars always had issues since the 80s in North America and GM cars being good sellers in China is a strange phenomenon do you agree?

We actually have the same feeling about GM car as the people in North America, that is why we think Germany car> Japan car= USA car. But it is not strange about GM selling good, because our car industry was weak and GM car still better than ours, so some people chose to buy GM car. Moreover, we and USA both are big countries, we may have the similar feeling about car, so many people like the style of USA cars and drive big USA car.
Nowdays, GM or Ford cars still have market share in China (GM almost sell 4 million cars in China every year, more than in USA), but the good day is over. 1. USA car have many quality problems and the consumers are more and more angry. 2. Home-made cars is catching up. If USA car do not make more progress, I think it will be a dark future for USA brands.
