Miftah Gives a Reality Check to PTI’s Plan

Former Federal Minister of Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs, Miftah Ismail, said, “PTI will soon announce a policy to build 5 million pucca houses over its 5 years. I hope it succeeds but let me give a reality check. The total number of pucca houses in ALL urban areas of Pak together is 49,54,218. So PTI’s plan is to build more houses than exist in all urban areas of Pakistan. How much money do they need for this: $180 billion. That’s enough for about 13 Daimer-Basha dams. That’s Rs 24,300 billion. That’s more than the taxes we expect FBR to raise in the next 5 years. If every single paisa saved by every Pakistani over the next 5 years (total national savings) is devoted to build 5m houses, even then we will be short. If every single paisa of private investments over the next 5 years that would go towards investing in shops, restaurants, factories, power plants, schools and hospitals etc were to all be diverted towards building 5 million new homes even then the money won’t be enough. How can grown men and women devise or believe such a plan is beyond me. But then again I do ordinary Maths, not Naya Maths.”

That tells a lot about the capability of Patwari league's economists and their dumb followers, although it's useless to waste time on explaining anything to them. But for those who have few brain cells working, unlike Mofo SS who wasted and looted public money in ashiana where Government was spending money on scheme. PTI's approach is altogether different, they are planning to make new laws and SOP's to protect investors, facilitate builders and make it easier for people to get home loans. So, government isn't paying for these houses for 100% private projects except creating enabling environment, Govt. will contribute in term of land for schemes for government employees and Non-Profit organizations like Akhuwat. So, no billions of dollars needed, only thing required is honesty, will, legislation, monitoring and control.

Devaluation of Rupee is the main reason why we are in such dire economic situation, govt must take Rupee value in control like dar did for 4.5 years, and not let open market decide the rupee value, or else the rupee will keep devaluate and our debt will keep rising.... This is the basic mistake PTI govt. making, the Rupee is vulnerable (plus rumours of new taxes due to new loan from IMF), so investors are wary of the situation and cautious, that is why investors pulled 270 plus billions from stock market, as a result stock market crashed.

This is the IMF game... They will provide high interest loans to countries and force them to devaluate their currency, thats it, the country is done.

The youthias here are not ready to learn or understand current crisis, all their intents are to defend IK and PTI, and abuse/accuse whoever disagrees with them.

Exactly, this may end era of unsustainable housing societies and speculation. But lets wait and see. Just hope they go for apartments to use less land. Especially in lahore/central punjab which is best agricultural land in Pakistan and wheat basket.

5 million isn't happening tough, even 10% of that will be good enough in 5 years.

If Pakistan continues with same policy of DHA and bahrias then in 30 years Islamabad will start to look like slumdog full of katchi abadis. And other cities before that. Karachi for now is one city that need it more then anyone else though not sure if Sindh gov will cooperate.
