DRDO completes work on MRSAM missile launcher
15MRSAM.jpg

DRDO has completed development of launcher for Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) which is jointly developed by India and Israel and will be derivative of recently tested ship defense Barak-8 missiles for Indian air force . MRSAM missile launcher system enables transportation, emplacement, erection, activation and launch of eight MRSAM canisterised missile (CMs) from a vertical firing position in single as well as ripple modes.

MRSAM missiles which have 70-kilometer range will replace old Pechora missiles of the IAF and buy two regiments of 36 launchers for the IAF. The missile launcher and the command post would be made in India. IAF has funded 90 % of the development cost of the Project while DRDO has funded 10 % .

Barak-8 testing from Indian Naval warship will be carried out mid of this year and Air force version will enter Production by 2017 as per information provided by DRDO . MR-SAM venture was signed in 2009 .

Good news.. from when naval version would be installed on the Ships??

. . .
Good work but 36 launchers with 2000 missiles is enough, now we should focus on developing indigenous LRSAMs.

Under installation at the moment in one boat, trials will be held before mansoon season, I believe, this year.

The vertical launch units of the LR-SAM, have already been built into INS Kolkata and the MF-STAR [multifunction surveillance and threat alert radar] is in place for missile guidance - All they need to do is take delivery of the missile from DRDO, load it and fire!

. .
Few years back DRDO had suggested Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) as the integrator for the MRSAM. The missile launcher and the command post would be made in India, with the rest of the complex system - including the missile itself - to be made in Israel. DRDO had already stationed at least 25 of its scientists in Israel for the project.

For IAF LR-SAM will be 150km SAM Under development by DRDO .

I am a bit confused between these LR-SAM and MR-SAM variants - An ER (extended range) variant of the LR-SAM/Barak 8 is also under development, which will see the missiles maximum range increased to 100 km. - is it the same on which DRDO is working? - but then it's reported to have a maximum range of 100 km.

One thing, the seeker inside Barak 8 is manufactured by BDL or BEL as ToT, or india just directly import it from israel,

Why there is a huge weight difference between Akash and Barak 8? as the later has more range than Akash.
