There were (and are) survivors who never even left the cities. While there were some deaths from radiation, it came nowhere close to destroying "all life in the vicinity." Nukes are wildly overrated IMO.
The Earth's magnetic field comes from its iron core. You can't "blow a hole" in a magnetic field. Ozone-wrecking and nuclear winters are hypotheses, similar to the notion that the Trinity device (first ever nuke) would set the atmosphere on fire and kill everyone. Or that the Super-Collider will make a black hole and suck the entire Earth into it.
In the 1950's to 1960's, there were hundreds of nukes set off above ground in tests. The world continues on its way.
Thats a good example..In addition to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Chernobyl site is now teeming with wild life.

About Blasting a hole in Ozone, our planet regularly gets bombarded by Metors which burst inside Earth's atmosphere with many megatons of explosive power.I onece witnessed a shooting star in Broad day light,it was a big ball of fire trailing in the sky,and then it burst into million fragments, and simply disappeared..A meteor must be burning brighter than the sun to be visible in daylight, and that happens regularly..
Nobody ever detected damage to Ozone,Ionosphere or atmosphere in general by explosions of such immense extremity..
so what , we all humans deserves it...its our fault that we developed our own destruction.......Nukes cant destroy the world, but they can destroy modern civilization driving humanity into anarchy back to medieval ages.
for me it will not shatter the world to peices but the destruction will huge..
the world wont be anymore like what we know today!!
as for global warming, it really is a bigger threat. the slow poision we are getting in form of green house gases will surely bring a catestrophy...
there is a quote that describes it very well
"the effect of rise in temprature due to global warming cannot be predicted and the scientists hope, they never find out"
The planet Earth (itself) will not suffer significant physical damage. However, it will become unsuitable for most of the life forms for a long time. Humans will face extinction.nuclear winter and destruction of present human lifestyle no doubt about it but never destroy the earth but yeah it will bring the earth a thousand years back
i was going to say thatNukes cant destroy the world, but they can destroy modern civilization driving humanity into anarchy back to medieval ages.
This is a very silly assessment. Explosions do not matter. The after-effects will seal the fate of humanity and most other life forms.Just calculate total number of Nukes of all countries having them...and destory each one city of the world with each one Nuke....and there will still left hundreds of cities...
There will be some survivors even after a global nuclear war but they will perish under extreme conditions.i was going to say that
also it all depends on the events of the war
if the war was between us and europe
agninst russia and china
the destruction will be in these areas while latin america and africa will be unharmed
of course the middle east will be destroyed becouse at least isreal and egypt and iran has wmd nucler or chemical
