Can nukes really destroy the world?

Nukes cant destroy the world, but they can destroy modern civilization driving humanity into anarchy back to medieval ages.

There were (and are) survivors who never even left the cities. While there were some deaths from radiation, it came nowhere close to destroying "all life in the vicinity." Nukes are wildly overrated IMO.

The Earth's magnetic field comes from its iron core. You can't "blow a hole" in a magnetic field. Ozone-wrecking and nuclear winters are hypotheses, similar to the notion that the Trinity device (first ever nuke) would set the atmosphere on fire and kill everyone. Or that the Super-Collider will make a black hole and suck the entire Earth into it.

In the 1950's to 1960's, there were hundreds of nukes set off above ground in tests. The world continues on its way.

About Blasting a hole in Ozone,our planet regularly gets bombarded by Metors which burst inside Earth's atmosphere with many megatons of explosive power.I onece witnessed a shooting star in Broad day light,it was a big ball of fire trailing in the sky,and then it burst into million fragments,and simply disappeared..A meteor must be burning brighter than the sun to be visible in daylight,and that happens regularly..
Nobody ever detected damage to Ozone,Ionosphere or atmosphere in general by explosions of such immense extremity..

Global nuclear war will be extremely destructive as latest studies are revealing. It will result in extinction of humanity and Earth will become unsuitable for normal life for a long time.

as for global warming, it really is a bigger threat. the slow poision we are getting in form of green house gases will surely bring a catestrophy...

The planet Earth (itself) will not suffer significant physical damage. However, it will become unsuitable for most of the life forms for a long time. Humans will face extinction.

Just calculate total number of Nukes of all countries having them...and destory each one city of the world with each one Nuke....and there will still left hundreds of cities...

i was going to say that
also it all depends on the events of the war
if the war was between us and europe
agninst russia and china
the destruction will be in these areas while latin america and africa will be unharmed
of course the middle east will be destroyed becouse at least isreal and egypt and iran has wmd nucler or chemical

if there is nuclear war in full scale yes it can nearly wipe out 70 percent of world population..
and practically we wouldnt require more than few hundred to do so (among the 40,000 nukes in the world)..infact 50 powerfull nuclear weapons can wipe out all of USA population due to radiation fall out

and iran/eygpt doesnt have any nuclear weapons..it take time and lot of energy to build them and more importantly to maintain them.

This is a very silly assessment. Explosions do not matter. The after-effects will seal the fate of humanity and most other life forms.

There will be some survivors even after a global nuclear war but they will perish under extreme conditions.
