Can Modi Build India's Bullet Train? - Forbes

Modi-ji could be looking to China for help in adopting modern production methods. I personally believe this is unnecessary, because the IITs are more than capable of satisfying technology upgrade needs.

Indian bullet train tracks will also be elevated so as to avoid crossings and unauthorized instrusions.

Instead of going for bullet train, India should strengthen the aviation infrastructure. Indian aviation space has a huge potential to exploit. Also the existing railway infrastructure should be improved and the speeds of trains increased. The average speed of all long distance over night trains should be brought to minimum 100 kmph. The bullet trains should be thought after that.
There is lot of politics in involved in here. Airlines dont want govt to build better road/train infra as it will lead to more ppl using it and taking away business from the. Good example is bangalore-chennai, chennai-hyderabad,mumbai-pune where high speed train will be really attractive.

Competition is stifled in airline sector by politics. Tatas were not allowed to launch airlines for several decades. Spice jet was bought (sold back now) by coercion. There is cartelisation of industry sectors in india by powerfull ppl.

These are also Indian trains and then we have Rajdhani's, Satabdis and other high class trains too.
India is vast market and Indian rail is trying to meet requirements of all. Picking out one crazy pic from some remote situation cannot define entire Indian Railway Offerings.

As far as Modi or someone else is concern, India is developing, conusmers are demanding and willing to pay, so no matter who is in governance, they have to abide by populous demands. So Bullet or so called HSR will be here, decade ago people where laughing about Metro and now every major city is on its way to get metro.

These trains are for rich western tourists who want to sightsee India from a train. They are irrelevant there.

HSR is overrated.

Freight trains are king

In the US, freight trains are for freight only. They never carry passengers.

Are you proposing that Indian freight trains should carry both cargo and people?

thats what we need to address.
Superfast express ways like Yamuna Expressway would still be better to have than bullet trains. The money can be used to promote air travel between smaller towns.Bullet trains should be introduced, IMHO, only after achieving the avg speed of 100kmph by long distance trains.

Fast expressways are slow compared to bullet trains. How many people in India can afford cars? And how many can afford cars that can safely drive on the fast expressways?

The answers are: not very many. There are too few cars to make super fast expressways economical. On the other hand, there will be a lot more people who can afford the bullet train tickets.

The attention to details on these new Chinese bullet trains are impressive. Even the locomotive clamps are color coordinated with the body:

Bullet train is nothing when it comes to vedic technology which actually deals with cosmic travel.

You are very true! Modi-ji and his capable ministers are working very hard to rediscover the advanced ancient Vedic technologies. India will apply these technologies to the making of bullet trains.

For "western tourists", this shows you know very little about Indian rail. You are confusing the "Palace on wheels" with these other trains.

So these 19th century throwbacks are for the masses, i.e. 99.9% of Indians?:D

These trains have been designed to operate in all climate conditions in China, with the exception of the Tibetan plateau. Previously, Chinese bullet trains in the far north were specially modified to work in the cold climate. With these new CRH350 models, all of them work in the far north without any additional modification.
Why with the exception of Tibetan plateau?
Some sections of Lanzhou-Xinjiang HSR are actually on Tibetan plateau in Qinghai Province.

China has proposed selling EMUs capable of 250km/hour to India, and Modi-ji has expressed interest in these:
That intercity CRH6A is about 200km/h, not 250km/h

China has two other models of EMUs which are suitable for India. Both can cruise at up to 250km/hour.

This one was only a prototype, already given up.
Most railway fans think this model from CNR is exceedingly ugly.

Of course, research is continuing on future EMU technologies. Below is the CIT500 next to the CRH380A. CIT500 is a technology demonstrator used to research various new construction and propulsion technologies that can be applied to future models.

The current name of CIT500 is CRH380AM

These are CRH380A EMUs, which are available if Modi-ji decides to have elevated bullet train corridors.
Frankly, CRH380A is too pricey for India.

The Moscow-Kazan section is to be completed by 2018, design speed 400 km/h, what EMU will be used?
